As I recall, the Trini Lopez Gibson was almost the same guitar as the Barney Kessel model. There were a few differences, like the headstock and fret markers, but much the same. |

The rare hollow Kessel-ian one--307 made. Listed here several times, but no one gives a flip.
An unrefined description from "Testing" is here:

I deleted the FS:I edited version after it drew not only no interest but presumably mild contempt as it plummeted down the pages.
(I guess no one on the Forum is as old as I am--57--and doesn't remember Trinis from back in their day.) _________________ "Gopher, Everett?" |

Ben, I sense your frustration, but remember, this is a steel guitar forum. I've seen many cases of quality 6 stringers that languish here seemingly unnoticed. Your age 57 is just reaching maturity. Hang in there. _________________ Mullen, G2, D10, Peavey Nashville 112, Roland Cube 80XL, DD3, Goodrich L10 VP. |

I was being a little facetious in that, at age 57, it's my impression that I'm well inside the younger half of SGF membership. _________________ "Gopher, Everett?" |

Rarity doesn't always equal desirability. There are several guitars in Gibson's history that didn't do well first time around. It's my recollection that the Trini Lopez model was one of them.
It's pointless to get frustrated about the apparent lack of interest. These aren't in the front-rank of so-called 'collectible' guitars; I have no doubt that there's someone out there somewhere that wants yours, but it would be quite a coincidence if he also happened to be a regular visitor to our Forum. I'd spread your net a little wider if I were you.
By the way, the 'sister model' to the 'Trini Lopez', the Barney Kessel Gibson, was also a poor seller in its day but Time Jumper Andy Reiss has raised its profile a little by making it his 'go to' guitar for his Monday nights at the 'Bluegrass Inn'. A great sounding guitar - especially in Andy's hands - but an unusual 'look' that won't be everyone's cup-of-tea. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Actually Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) is using these and I think he has a signature Gibson based on the Trini Lopez standard with the the 335 style cut aways. |
