Topic: new Bw speakers |

| the local guitar center here has an old Session 400 for sale and the guy told me that they had just ordered and put a new 15" BW in it ,however when I looked in the back it has a black Basket not the mormal aluminum color that a BW useally has.is this something new ? |

Hey Lee, I know Peavey changed some of the baskets a few years ago, but had not heard that the 1501 steel guitar speaker was one of them. The last new one I saw, looked pretty much like the old ones. Mike Brown can tell you for sure.
There should be a number on that speaker in the amp you're looking at. It may be that they replaced it with something other than a steel guitar speaker in which case it may or may not sound like you expect. |

The original Session 400 in the mid seventies had a black decal on the magnet with a spider web in white (black widow like). It's quite cool and provides a way you can tell if the speaker matches the vintage of the amp. I'm not sure about the cast aluminum frame though as my basket/frame assembly had been replaced before I bought it. (used)
Ask them if they have the old speaker. The magnet assembly (with decal) is almost always fine. It's the voice coil that goes which is part of the basket/frame. You could use the original magnet assembly with new basket and it would be more true to the original design. |

I did not mean for my post to be misleading. I posted a pic of the basket only because I couldn't find a good representation of a complete speaker showing the magnet attached.
Apparently some of the new BW's have a completely different structure altogether. I just didn't think that the 1501 steel guitar speakers was subject to that reconfiguration....that is what I was trying to say. |

| this does have the old magnet with the spiderweb on it,but the basket just looks different,i'm not really intereasted in buying it anyway but was just curious when i saw it and ask about the speaker,i guess it is a pretty good deal thought they are only asking $199 fot it. |
