I played a gig this weekend and was sitting close to a loud bass amp. Every once in a while the bass would hit a note that would make my guitar break up. It happened when I was running my original Goodrich Match-bro in the dobro mode. Is it possible that these units can have microphonic properties. It is a rather large sheet metal chassis box. Maybe I should wrap it in foam rubber.

There are no tubes to go microphonic in a MatchBro. It's all solid state. And, if it were to develop a microphonic type problem it would be all the time, not just when the bass player hit a certain note.

The metal box is really best as it is grounded and shields the entire insides.

Plug it in and set it to the dobro position and gently tap on it and see if it makes any noise. If it does, I would suspect a bad jack or the selector slide switch. I did have to use contact cleaner on the switch in my MatchBro one time but it wasn't making any noise - just wasn't working in the dobro position. I have one of the original models with the tone control in bypass.

Thanks for the input. I'll check that. Perhaps it's a problem somewhere else in the signal path, but the Match-Bro (when on the dobro setting) brings it up in the mix, so I hear it more.

Nope. a PV session LTD. signal path is:

a Supro lap steel > Match-Bro (on dobro) > VP > reverb pedal > PV amp. It might be a cable or the
pickup of the Supro, too.

Don't other things (like pickups) get microphonic, besides tubes?

Pickups do. The tiny wires wrapped around the cores get loose and vibrate.

Lookup "Potting Pickups" for info and cures.

I suspect it's your pickup, with the MatchBro selecting the resonant frequency.
