two of my favorite songs in the old movie nashville were 'tapedeck in his tractor' and 'dues' by ronee blakely. who recorded the steel on these cuts? i think stu basore played the steel player on stage with her.

I remember Jeff saying he was hired to play Banjo in the opening scene because he was the only available banjo picker the show producers could find that didn't have long hair.

Here's some more info, from the "Old Forum", including a Lloyd Green story:

The terrific steel-part on 'Tapedeck In His Tractor' from Stu Basore will stay with me forever!

An odd film, but quite a document now with so many guest appearances here and there.

All I know is that the singer (whoever the actor is) introduces Weldon Myrick on the steel break of 'Keep A Going'.

The late Henry Gibson. probably most famous from Laugh-In. He apparently wrote Keep A'Goin' quite awhile before the movie Nashville.

I really got a kick out of this movie too, one of the funniest little moments is at the very end of a song, playing outdoors somewhere, Stu Basore blows a chime/harmonic and you see him say "Oh s###!" on camera. I felt his pain, man.

Always thought that was a riot that they left that in, but then Altman was big on verite, wasn't he?

Anybody on the Forum who hasn't seen Nashville, check it out, it and any of Altman's movies are really worth seeing.

On the album "Ronee Blakley" Elektra EKS-75027,
Buddy Emmons is playing the steel in his famous Californian Style.
Not only on the tracks mentioned above, but also on "down to the river" In my opinion still one of his best intro's.
I just played the record and realized that with the modern technology I can slow this intro down to 50% and than I might be able to figure it out.
Beautiful album, nice movie.

Bob, Again... if my memory serves me Smile We heard the band was going to be in the movie, so we couldn't wait to see it. They're appearance was very fleeting. They were a bar band that was playing in the backround of one of the scenes. Pretty disappointing for us.

I remember watching that movie in an old moviehouse in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1975. The sound was so bad that I couldn't understand the English and ended up reading the Dutch and French subtitles. Whoa! Ironically, the scripts in Dutch and French were different, and with what English I could hear, that was different still Exclamation

Mark, that's as good an excuse as any to watch it again - been a long time since I've seen it.

I remember Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen playing in a movie, can't remember the title though, definitely not "Nashville".
They played "Everybody's doin' it now" on a grassy hillside.
