Now that I've somewhat recovered from my extremely painful and upsetting ordeal that occurred early on Saturday morning in St.Louis, Missouri......(with the exception of the fun-filled, Fire Department Search and Rescue Ambulance ride across town to the Saint Louis University Hospital..........)

I'd like to take this belated opportunity to THANK
"SCOTTY" (and any/all others that might have participated in this decision making process) for deeming ME worthy of this recognition and for making this AWARD a reality. I can't thank you more.

When my good friend Bill Stafford received such an AWARD several years ago, I was very happy and proud for HIM.....and felt he was more than deserving of such recognition. No finer musician do I know of and a man of unblemished character.

At no time had I ever dreamed of receiving such an Award.

I THANK Scotty and others, and especially my good friend Tom Palmer of D2F, for stepping up to the mic and accepting this JERRY BYRD - LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD on my behalf and during my medical absence.

I appreciate this Award very much and it is now proudly displayed on the west wall in my music room along with all of my JERRY BYRD photo's, records, and the like. Again, my most sincere thanks.

Ray, congratulations on this most coveted award. I am so proud of and for you. To have been personally selected by Jerry Byrd for this is as good as it gets for any type of musical award any steel player could ever hope to receive. I am still in awe, and I really know how you feel. Thanks for giving me this good company too. Jerry is missed so much by all of us. "...keep your thumb pick hot". (Quote from Jerry when he ended all his letters to me).
Glad you are better now.

I congratulate you Ray.

Those things would tend to make me nervous.

I'd start thinking that maybe it signified the only lifetime achievement, or maybe it was the only lifetime achievement. I'd turn it over and see if there was anything on the back that said "what I'd achieved"...

Then if I wasn't there myself to accept it....

That's just me though..

I do agree with you about Bill Stafford. He's a man that has accomplished much, and is owed much more than people know by more people than he will ever know or tell.

The more of your playing I've heard over the years, the more I've liked you Ray, and I'd like that to continue.

Smile
