It amazes me how may players don't know how to spell it correctly.
For those who don't know the correct spelling it is CHORD.

A cord is a length of wire, string etc., etc. and has nothing to do with the sound of music.

Except as has been noted below as in a cord used to hook up a guitar or steel etc.
That isn't what was meant by the above spelling as in a C chord to play a melody.
Don

Edited to clarify the above meaning of the words cord & chord.

Yea folks spell chord right but have no idea how to read, spell, understand or play a given chord with out asking somebody, or looking it up in a chord finder.
I could care less if a person can spell chord correctly but I do care when I say play a G13b9, C7#9. Faug11 etc.. and all you get is a blank stare.

You're right, Don. The Sound of Music is a length of celluloid.

Theirs allways sumone on hear correcting sumbodys spelling. I don't sea that it makes a hole lot of difference as long as people no what the person is talking about. This forum softwear doesn't have a spell checker and people do make misteaks. So what? Your not righting a paper for school.

Call it chord or cord, getting it correct won't make you play any better.

Mickey - yep the hanger and hanger thing. Also, most places a ramp is an inclined surface, except at an airport.......... and "you have traffic at 10:00 o'clock five miles"........"no joy". I know that came from military and I've said it a thousand times, but it never made any sense to me. Smile

I get a kick out of people calling a bass drum a kick drum. (Pun intended.) Also when steelers started using horn players technology calling thier hands chops. Surprised

When I'm spelling I'm right 97% of the time. The other 4% I no one cares about it. Oh Well

Duane, I see you noticed it too. I actually learned something from this thread. I thought LENGHT was a mispelled word so I went to the dictionary before I showed my ignurnce. I learned that there is a work lenght and a word length. I would have spelled it length every time. I was so sure that lenght was mis-spelled in the original post and was all set to have a little good natured fun with it until I checked for myself and found it to be correct. I hate when that happens. I have studied it at lenght and it still looks wrong to me, or did I study it at length? I don't know.
