In running your steel through a board, what are some Mic recommendations. I don't like to run my N112 direct because I like using my amp for monitor.
Thanks, Ol' Fred |

Shure SM57 or Sennheiser e609, both around $100, both equally solid amp mics. |

My preference is the Sennheiser e609 but it does take a bit more to dial in so that depends on your sound guy. It's always hard to go wrong with a SM-57. |

Hey, Fred. Go with the Shure SM 57. Most common mic for miking amps and is the industry standard. Makes it real easy to sell, should you ever decide to do so, since everybody is familar with it. I have two of them. Also, when you do mic the amp, place the mic about 6 inches from the amp and off center. :Point the mic at the speaker, don't hang it down on it's cord from the amp handle.
Also, if you don't have one of the On Stage amp stands (I think it is a model 5700 something?) you can get one at Guitar Center in Knoxville for $29.00. You will also need a boom to go with it. The metal tube on the back of the stand telescopes upward so that you can connect a boom, allowing the end of the boom to come down into the front of the amp to amp the mic. I will be playing at Willoughby Ruritain this coming Saturday night at 7:30 PM. I will be there an hour before, setting up. This is in your back yard, so if you would like to see the 57 and the stand, pop in, even if you don't stay for the show. |

I have used the Shure SM57 and the Sennheiser e609 extensively in my studio for steel and guitar. The SM57 is more directional and so will pick up less stray (off axis) noise. It also will handle a little more sound pressure before overloading. This is from experience and not from any spec sheet. Either mic can produce great tone!

Lynn,
You just slide the Z-Bar through the handle of the amp. Or you can slide it under the bottom of the amp. Or you can tape it to the top of a Marshall type cab.

Shure SM 57 .....always take my own to bigger gigs just in case, but most sound/crew in UK use them for back/line.

The e609 is nothing like the old MD409 except in body style. Too bad.... |
