Thank you, Dick. I will work with this one _________________ Sherman L. Willden
It is easy to play the steel guitar. Playing so that the audience finds it pleasing is the difficult act. |

Sherman,
Seems there are many forum members from your area in Co. And don't forget Carl Johnson down in Cortez. He has his own band of Johnson's, I think. Great picker. |

This one is really cool !
How could this be applied ? Could it be used get to the 4 chord in the key of G ? Starting on your 1st fret lowered E's would make that a Minor something right ? I might be way off on that LOL |

Cody, you may not have seen me write this before. Everything I put up is meant to become yours, what I mean by that is they are only ideas meant to inspire thought. This piece can be used as an exercise, a learning tool to show where things are or as a piece that can be broken up into smaller pieces to be played in part over what is needed.
That said, I sat in for a very good local player once and in a slower song, had the opportunity to play this C to C run in total as the first half of a break in the song. Even though it did not mirror or even come close to the melody, I played it as soulful as I possibly could and with as much feeling as I could muster. The guitar player took the second half of the break and tied it to the song we were playing. When I was done with my part of the run, I looked up and the audience was applauding me. Sometimes the most simple things are exactly what's required.
Take it apart. It is nothing more than a harmonized scale. Make it your own! |

Treat it as a right hand exercise too. Dick left a suggestion for a picking pattern 2T2. When this repeats, it is 2T2-2T2-2T2 etc. At slow tempos, no problem. But in an uptempo shuffle, finger 2 might not be able to keep up.
Try these patterns:
2T2-T2T etc. (Straight alternating-not easy at first)
2T1-2T1 etc. (a roll on two strings-works well for me) |

Thanks Fred, correct! I just tried my old 21T and after a few passes it did come off quicker then 2T2. Yours are feeling a little alien to my 76yo fingers, so it's back to the wood shed. |
