Does anyone know for sure how Junior Brown has his steel tuned? I'm pretty sure someone else is playing some of the steel tracks on his c.d.'s....Especially the pedal steel. I have my own ideas, for the tuning, but if anyone knows for sure, I'd like to try it. Thanks for your help. Tommy........... |

I believe it's a basic Hi C6 with the low A tuned to Bb (for his "guit-steel"):
Bb C E G A C E G
low-to-high
If anyone is in central Texas this month, Junior is playing the happy hour (7pm show) Sundays at the Continental Club in Austin. 15 dollar cover, I think. |

Junior tunes his double neck guit-steel to C13 with a high G & low Bb for the stringmaster neck, regular EADGBE on the guitar neck. That's what he plays at live gigs. He also overdubs pedal steel on his studio recordings.
I saw a thread here at SGF not too long ago on his newest guit-steel that will be a stand-up rig with pedals and an attached Tele neck. |

Seems to be consensus. I would really like to know what is happening with his picking never having had the chance to see him in the flesh. He seems to move directly from gtr to steel but it sounds as if he is using a flatpick on gtr and yet finger picks on steel. What is going on? |

He uses a flat pick and finger picks on his middle and ring fingers. |
