I just received a Steel that was played in a Smokey environment and was wanting to know how to get rid of the smell if possible. The case is way worst than the Steel. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks _________________ 78 Emmons PP,Great tone.82 Emmons SKH #56 |

There was a similar thread, recommending a box of baking soda left in the case to absorb the odor.
I keep one of those cardboard car air fresheners in my case. I tried the MR T version but it smelled worse than the smoke.
There is also a product called... "STENCH BEGONE" Odor Out .. that works well too. |

Thanks for the replies Bo and Crowbar, I will give them a try. There's a little yellowing on the neck so I will try the lighter fluid. The under side is pretty clean. Thanks again. _________________ 78 Emmons PP,Great tone.82 Emmons SKH #56 |

Billy, when I saw the title of this thread (Smell of Smoke) I first thought:
Man, this guy must be fast.
Yes, just as CrowBear says.
Plus, get a clothes dryer antistatic sheet and keep in in the case.
It will kept that "stinky case" smell down. |

Billy,
This stuff works wonders! Spray it everywhere, fabric, tolex, felt, grill cloth, flocking, formica, everywhere....a lot!
Then open the case and leave it outside, but not in direct sun (so it soaks in longer).

Get a couple, their cheap. There's no masking odor!
I found it at Walmart, but haven't seen it lately.
accept no substitutes! |

In the upholstery business I use FABREEZE on stuff that smells bad...Dampen slightly and let it set out side in the fresh air to dry.. _________________ WILCOX SD10 (love the white mica)

Coffee grounds works great... well as long as you don't mind the coffee smell. Also look for this stuff called Odoban, works a lot better than Frebreeze. |
