A few years ago I used a linux box and some applications to "sniff" the network. I found it peculiar that they called this mode of NIC operation "promiscuous" mode.

Well, aside from the obvious first definition, here's what the dictionary has for "promiscuous":

2. Lacking standards of selection; indiscriminate.
3. Casual; random.
4. Consisting of diverse, unrelated parts or individuals; confused:

Maybe it was the NIC causing the network issues after all... Smile
