A few years ago I used a linux box and some applications to "sniff" the network. I found it peculiar that they called this mode of NIC operation "promiscuous" mode.
Well, aside from the obvious first definition, here's what the dictionary has for "promiscuous":
2. Lacking standards of selection; indiscriminate.
3. Casual; random.
4. Consisting of diverse, unrelated parts or individuals; confused:
Maybe it was the NIC causing the network issues after all... _________________ Lawyers are done: Emmons SD-10, 3 Dekleys including a D10, NV400, and lots of effects units to cover my clams... |
