Was in the studio a couple of weeks ago with a good Forumite friend.....and cut a couple of NON-STANDARD
country instrumental tunes.
One was in answer to a tune Basil posted a couple of months back.
It's different........ I failed to do it as I had originally planned on doing but it's acceptable for my project.
I'd be grateful to any of you choosing to give it a listen and then letting ME know what you feel about it. REMEMBER! I've been torched by some of the Forum's best so feel free to let her rip!
Ooooops! I forget to tell you where you can find it.
It's on RAY's CD Page, within the jerrybyrd-fanclub.com It's at the very bottom of the page. |

Well Ray, I've always thought that your playing is top notch. Never have I heard enough of it.
Any of the dozen or so music jobs you've had in the last thirty years, myself and most all of Portland has been rooting for you to cut it, and keep it.
I don't think I've ever read or heard ANYBODY disrespect your playing. I know I certainly never have had anything bad to say about it.
Your bitching, whining, and denigrating your fellow players over the decades has come close to overshawdowing it. Yours. Nobody else's.
For me, it still hasn't.
If somebody plays your music for me, and I don't know who it is, I always like it.
Keep it up.
It's about your only saving grace.

There's a 3 second gap from 1:43 to 1:46 for some reason. Other than that I found it an interesting comparison with Basil's version. Your version sounds more Hawaiian and his more classical. |

Yeah, Ray! We had a great time making this, and we'll finish the other soon.
For gear-heads, that's a Genz-Benz Compak 300 (10" speaker) that Ray's playing through... _________________ Christopher Woitach

Get him back into the studio as soon as you can. We need a lot more Skipper material recorded. |

Ray, that is a really nice sound. You should make an instrumental album of your alltime favorites. _________________ 60's & 70's country rock is my favorite, Martin & Taylor acoustic, Fender & Washburn electric, Rickenbacher BD 8 lap steel, violin. |

Posted 6 Sep 2010 3:34 pm About the much appreciated comments...............
|
|
b0b thank you......for the LINK to the tune and for recognizing my attempt to make it sound 'nice'. Coming from you, I surely appreciate your kind words.
Christopher....appreciate your comments! That was a really sweat sounding, small sized amp. And I think you did a wonderful job on making the recording happen. The project couldn't have happened had it not been for you coordinating the entire project. I truly loved the bassman and the close way he worked with you. It would be great fun to have a playing gig with the two of you. WOW!
Alan......many thanks. I'm proud to have you for a friend. That 'gap' wasn't on the original recording. It kept occuring during my transfer to the JERRY BYRD FAN CLUB site. It has been suggested that might very likely have been my 'puter running out of virtual memory and having to jump back to the hard driver. THANK YOU.......
Paul.....with Christophers' help, 'my dream', just might make your suggestion a possibility.
Many Thanks BEN. I do appreciate it.
Elton, you're in the wrong pew! Go to the page "Ray's CD's"........okay. b0b has included a LINK elsewhere in this thread. Thanks for giving it a whirl.
Eric your kind words are indeed appreciated, Coming from a real heavy weight in the Portland Music Market, I realize they carry a lot of weight. THANK YOU! Too bad you had to leave a nasty taste with your subsequent negative comments. You just can't get by it, can you?
No idea why you feel obliged to do this but if it makes YOU feel better, GO FOR IT! Perhaps you might care to enlighten not only myself, but the rest of the Forum with your keen insight in another thread.
You have a great writing talent so why not put it to work in a constructive manner. Perhaps I can better understand why all of the digs come my way from you. |
