Great site, I spent a few hours on it mostly gawking at all the great pics. The one of Pete with Carl and Pearl Butler and Grady Martin is my favorite. I can just hear them singing "Don't Let Me Cross Over" and as you can see Pete is on the C6 neck!

Excellent site - thanks Cal.
Pete certainly had a career and a half. He has often been denigrated for his technical ability as a steel player, but his achievements stack up against anyone's as a musician/producer/publisher.

Does anyone else have Tracy Nelson Country? In '69 or so I was up near San Francisco and a friend took us to see Mother Earth. I didn't meet Tracy Nelson but I wish now I would have. I have about five of her albums. Great individual.

I was at the Steel convention when Pete got inducted in into the Ho Fame they allwed Smoking then in the room so Scotty told everyone NO Smoking because Pete couldn't breathe from Emphysema He was also in a Wheel chair i felt very sorry for him at the time. Went up to him as He sit outside waiting for the Smoke to clear and ask him this...
Pete you and LLoyd green are listed on Billy Crash Easy as Pie WHO played the Recording?
He struggled for breath those stinking cigarettes had robbed him of and said, "It was Me bud", It was not long after he passed away.
You can hear Petes style on things like Donna fargo and Johnny rodriquez recordings what a player he was!. |

I was at St Louis the year he was inducted too. It was sad to see him in the wheelchair. But, I'm glad he got the Hall of Fame honor while he was still alive.
We probably all have "Pete Drake Licks" in our Repertoire. |

I was there also when he was inducted.
Last March, I did a concert with three local artists that had recorded with Pete back in the 60's/70's. He did some tricky licks on their recordings. It took some head scratching to figure them out from those old records.

Thank goodness Pete was inducted into the "Hall of Fame" when he was......
I'll never forget it! He was so happy....as we were for him!
What a great human being, artist,musician&producer, we'll "Forever" be grateful of his great accomplishments! His music will "Forever" live on! |
