I have presented a good bit of information about my tuning setup. Because of the uniqueness of the top 4 strings it is important to establish what can be accomplished in this register of my guitar. This presentation goes along ways to showing there are some phrases, licks and groupings that are unequaled on a standard E9. Now in fairness there are likely some hard to accomplish patterns for me as well. However, I think the simplicity of my approach may be appealing to some.

Let me know what yuns think... Smile

Thanks, Herb! Keep following along.

Richard B. - on that rundown lick I think you are talking about the chromatic sounding thing, right? This is a bit of a new discovery because of the chromatic scale studies. So I'm glad you caught that sound. Simply put I use the following for the lick...

3rd string - Eb
4th string - D
5th string - C#

Keep in mind that my top 4 strings are unlike most any standard tunings including universals. I also have 3 other chromatic patterns at the top too. I even have one where I can retune 1 string and 5 chromatic notes. Fun but crazy.

That's the kind of thing that got you noticed "way back when",,,,

Thanks, Sonny. You are very correct. I have developed in other areas as well but this sort of thing seems to be a "sugar stick" for me. That said, I do have a secret. I'm doing my BEST to share it with everyone. Very Happy

This is my pursuit on getting someone to pay me a dime for every note I can play in 3 minutes!

Storm R. - thanks! Just keep in mind I've been sitting behind one of these bicycles since I was 9 years old. I've learned to play that one lick inside and out! Very Happy

Brad - that's on the bottom grip my strings 10,9,8.

Oh and here is something fun - Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms is tempo = 130. Which is perfect. Keep that in mind as you practice this kind of stuff. Tempos are everything. It's like timing of a golf swing. BTW - I'm practicing Orange Blossom Special for the St. Louis show. I start at 150 then go to 160. Now that's work my friends! I've been known to put some hurt on a drummer.... Very Happy

Very nice stuff there Zane! I was watching another video of yours on YouTube where you strummed across your tuning and was wondering just how you tuned it. I don't remember you covering that in any of your topics or videos yet. Do you tune by ear, harmonics, a tuner, everything 440 or what? If you have it in cents such as E=440, B=439.5 as that's what type of readings my tuner uses....Thanks, in advance.....JH in Va.

Jerry - I will look for some older posts where I detail out my 12 string tuning a good bit. Here is the copedent:

Tuning - what's that? You mean you actually have to tune these things? Who knew. Very Happy seriously, I have yet to get a steel guitar in tune. I've tried it all! I don't have "perfect" pitch but I quit playing for along time because of my discontentment with the intonation of steel guitars. That didn't help you at all did it? For the record, I do use a tuner on my iPhone and it goes by frequency. It's the most accurate thing I have seen.

I have placed 2 old topics TTT of Pedal Steel section regarding my 12 string setup. There are other items as well that you can explore on my You Tube. I know a lot of this is getting pretty heavy. Obviously, I'm working on some instructional DVD series that will be easier to consume.

Jerry - that tuner I use on my iPhone is called a Cleartune App. It measures frequencies in Hz. First one that I have had that does it like that or at least shows it in the meter. Very accurate.
