Why did you format the card? I've never had to format one to use it in a phone, camera, or PC.
I did have a problem once with one card that all of a sudden stopped being read in my phone or my PC. I put it in my camera and formatted it, and from then on it worked everywhere. |

Did you tell it to, or did the phone do it automatically when you inserted the card? |

When I installed the card, to format the card was the only option offered. _________________ GFI SD10.Vegas 400, Oblong pedal, Rocket Scientist. |

Did you happen to buy this card on eBay? There are many people selling fake SanDisk cards on there.
The only phones I've used cards in are HTC Pocket PCs, so I don't know why your phone would try to format the card. I don't think HTC phones even have the option to format a card.
If you have a camera that this card will fit in, you might try to format it there, or reformat it in one of the other PCs that can read it.
Another thought is to make sure your card reader is plugged into a direct USB slot, and not into a USB hub. Those can cause a lot of read/write problems. |

I bought the card locally, and the reason the phone formatted it was to have folders for music, pictures, and video. Also I learned that not all pcs can read a card larger than 1 gig. Having said that, can all pcs see a external hard drive? _________________ GFI SD10.Vegas 400, Oblong pedal, Rocket Scientist. |

A card doesn't need to be formatted to be able to create folders, and formatting it doesn't create folders either. You just create folders (directories) on the card just like you do on a PC's hard drive.
I guess it's possible that a very old PC might not be able to read cards larger than 1 GB. I have a 32 GB card in my phone and my PC reads it just fine.
Older PCs might not have USB ports, so they obviously can't read external USB drives. My PC doesn't have external SATA ports, so it can't read external SATA drives. |
