As well we know, during pledge season [all-year round now] PBS will pull out some 'old' gems.
I caught the "Pretenders" the other night, but only half-heartedly. I wasn't sure if it was gonna indeed be the group that had the hit with "Back On The Chain Gang"(?).
Well, it turned out to be them, and they weren't all that bad. But I was dosing anyway in and out of sleep, when I once again awoke, and just caught the tail end of a pedal steeler. An obvious camera shot, because you could not see him in the regular video. I thought I was hearing a steel, too - but you never know - most of his stuff could have been played maybe just as well with a good 6-string.
He played a single neck and looked to be a keyless. That's about all I know.
I kept watching now, and they let him play some stuff, and he sounded good.
Just surprised me. Just like when I saw on a late night TV show, Lionel Ritchie w/ The Commodores, when the camera panned left, and they're he sat buried in the backstage, a pedalman. It was great to see. A black player, too. They were all dressed in real spiffy white suits. They looked and sounded like real pros.

The last I heard, Eric Heywood was playing with the Pretenders. He is a fantastic player and has played on lots of cool albums. Although, I am very partial to his work with Son Volt, especially their "Trace" album. |

I saw that show as well. (I still have a long-standing crush on Chryssie Hynde, so it was all good for me, even without the steel player.) It was tough to get a good look at the steel, but if I had to guess I'd say it was a Sierra. See link to video. Saw Son Volt at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts a couple of years ago with a steel player (Eric Haywood?) who was playing a non-pedal guitar. I'm a big Son Volt fan as well.

Is there a female somewhere in this group?
Michael Pierce?
I wasn't too sure myself?
You know what, Mike, I still don't have a clue?
Let us know.
