Just curious to know what the value might be of my steel..Believed to be 66 or 67 it is a Baldwin Crossover.3 and 4 .back neck removed as this would make it a D10.Seems all original finish with very little dings or other damage.Rack and Barrel and Gumby Head.Sounds like a million ,plays like a dream..

Been in love w/ Sho Buds since day one, Tone etc. etc. etc. IMHO The value "IMHO only", is, whatever you can get for it! Seems every one would like to have one, at the right price, me included. Someday, when I'm long gone, and the "Forum" picks up a few thousand more members, the REAL Sho Buds will be a "Real Vintage Desirable", but until then, seems everyone wants a collectors piece at "Cracker Jack" prices. I don't blame them. Luckily, my son & grand children are somewhat of musicians, and know what is needed, and hopefully, can look back at this post, and smile. Jay

Chris -- you are WAY off the mark on this one.
Bent - no sound samples needed.
Jay - I understand people wanting a piece of history at a cracker jack price. This one is not for sale ..I just needed a ball park figure for insurance purposes.

David, you might have said that right off the bat then. Resale value is one thing. Insurance value is different. I suppose you can put a rider on the thing to what ever value you are willing to pay the premium at. Unless they get their own appraisers and I doubt they know much about a pedal steel.
By the way, Chris might not be way off the mark like you say. This is an old crossover, not a popular model at any time I think. Plus it has been butchered down to a SD which doesn't exactly make it increase in value. I could be wrong of course. Wouldn't be the first time eh? Laughing

i've seen these sell very cheaply...they're heavy...it's not original..

on the other hand it's the same model steel that lloyd green first made the 'ldg' out of by taking the back neck off of and he said it was the best sounding steel he ever had.

so...not a collector, but 'someone' could probably make it sound great!

Bent, I apologize if I was misleading in any way as I was not intentionally trying to hide any thing..No I am not wanting to be dishonest and put a crazy value on this, just trying to come up with a reasonable amount that will please the insurance.
Chris, Apologies to you as well .although this may not be 100% original I have seen these sell in neighborhoods of $1500 and more and they were way worse in shape than this. There is no price guide on these like there are other vintage instruments that I have been able to find, hence the asking for help.

If you are wanting to insure a music insturment or equipment. Check with your insurance agent. When I put insurance on my steel, rack box and and speakers my agent wanted to see the reciepts and made a copy of them and put them in their file. check and see what they want reciept or appraisal to set the value. GOOD LUCK

In 1998, I bought a beautiful, fully functional Sho-Bud D-10 Baldwin crossover from Scotty's for $900. The market has risen a bit since then, but since this is a hacked-down version of the same model I'd price it at less than $900.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the modifications ruin any value it might have had as a "vintage collectible".

Here's the link where I tried to resell it.

No takers on the forum. Ended up selling it locally.

David, you need to resolve this dispute with Roger before you go about insuring this guitar, anyway. As I see it, you don't actually own the guitar until he has the agreed-upon trade goods in hand.
