Thanks for the pics David. It was great to see you guys, really enjoyed meeting Mason, a very nice young man.

Randy, Austin and I wanted to add our thanks to the Branson folks for inviting Austin to be a part of the show. We had so much fun and loved the friendly vibe the show had this year. Mr. Terry Bethel is such a great guy, all the club members worked so hard and put on a great show. I must mention Charlie and Rosemary, as they worked really hard and always had smiles on their faces. They were super kind to us and we really appreciate them.

Thanks again. Great job guys and gals!

I agree and send a big thanks to the OSGA staff for a great show..or at least what I saw of it. (I really planned on staying a little longer than I did...Real estate happens...) The band was awesome and I appreciate them so much! I wanted to extend a HUGE Thanks to the young man helping with moving equipment. I appreciate him so much but am embarrassed to say I never got his name. Please pass my thanks to him. Great to see old friends and do some picking..Excellent end to a terrific week....
Thanks for having me.

My, what a show it was!!! Thanks, David for posting these pictures! All the players and the band did a superb job in entertaining us with their expertise on their musical instruments. But there's not enough words to express the appreciation that I have for all those that brought and prepared the tables with the food stuffs! The vice-presidents, Rosemary and Charlie Steichen led the way. Many times I saw Charlie, "full-speed ahead" taking food or ice to the tables for someone's enjoyment! When Charlie took the vice-president's job, I had no idea that he was such a perfect person for the job. It seemed like everything he did was accompanied by a tremendous smile!! He built the stage just right. I looked from many advantage points in the building and could always see the players on the stage real well. And wasn't that a nice banner out on the street welcoming everyone? That was made by Charlie and Rosemary's daughter!! So many were involved in the success of this great weekend! A big thanks goes to Randy Stewart for bringing his 'cooker' and grilling all the hamburgers and hotdogs. Wow!! And did you hear him playing bass and keeping up with his son on the steel! The singers, also, brought a special touch to the show and we couldn't have done it without Buddy Lewis bringing the PA system. He had it set just right for the sound!! And what a beautiful commemorative program John and Pat Zazuliak had printed. Their son had a big part in doing this for us and we were so glad to meet him at the show. There were players from as far away as Canada, Arizona, Georgia, Texas, Illinois, Kentucky, Kansas, and of course, Arkansas and Missouri. Thanks, Bill Myrick, for all the pictures you always take and for being such a friendly gentleman to everyone. And thanks, also, to Mitzi Grantham for being the official photographer of all steel guitar shows. Rob Parker and Miss Lana kept the 'trains running on time' with their MC work! And now in closing this book, Very Happy a very special "Thank You" to our president, Terry Bethel, for putting together such a great show, and for choosing such a splendid band! People are already talking about next year!! You better circle the last weekend of July and get in on this excitement!!

Charlie and Rosemary did a wonderful job keeping things in the kitchen and everywhere else going. Jerry and Venda taking care of the door table. The young man carrying equipment couldn't have been better at his job or nicer. David, it was a pleasure meeting Mason. He is a very nice young man. Don't know where he gets that from!!!!!! HAHA Once again Terry thanks for having us and keeping the Branson Club going. Bill we want to thank you for all the help you give the club also. Sorry your wife couldn't make it this week end. I just wanted to thank EVERYONE for the help you gave to the OzSGA in preparing this show. My personal opinion "THIS WAS THE BEST SHOW YET".
The Wright Brothers performance was, great, awesome, incredible, and what ever more words you can say about a performance. Oh by the way, the Wright Brothers, Joe and David,(different momma's and daddy's) will be there next year.
Austin Stewart was at his best for both of his performance's. When I met Austin eight years I was impressed, but this year I cannot say enough about how he played, the words I used above also apply to Austin. Next year, you bet!!!
Rusty Rhodes came to play. He approches the Steel from a different direction, and I liked him so much, he is coming back next year. Jackson, Jackson, Jackson. Keith Hilton this is the best that I have ever heard you play.
The OzSGA band this year didn't miss a beat both days. Chuck Landry/drums, Dino Strunk/guitar, our new piano player, Roy Rosetta, and Mike and Max, bassest's(I guess that how you spell it) you guys are the best group of players I have ever had the Honor of working with.
Fridays band wasn't bad either. Russ Burns/drums, Buddy Lewis/bass, Roy Rosetta/piano and Dino Strunk/guitar, hey that's almost a full house, thanks guys!!!!!!
Hey Mr. Stewart, Randy that is, the food was awesome that you prepared, your bass playing is getting better too, so let me know when you want to become the OzSGA bass player. Dana and Donna and of course grandpa Newberry your family's are some of the nicest people I have ever been around.
To Mike McGee and Max King, you saved the day' or should I say the days. In my endevors to find a bass player for this show, there were none available that could fill the bill, you two really did a beautiful job, and I wanted to thank you in writing. Mike McGee I didn't know you played Steel too !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't mean to slight anyone so I will say this,"EVERYONE THERE THIS YEAR WAS THE CREAM OF THE CROP ".
Thank you one and all, and Joe Wright the split set you played Sunday was what made the day for me. I have told everyone what an incredible player you are and Sunday you showed them.
To Charlie and Rosmary "Our Vice Presidents", you two people are the greatest. With out your help, from building the stage to filling the ice bucket's I cannot thank you enough.
Venda and Jerry what beautiful people you two are, from your performance on Friday to the last table that was set up when the show was over, you were there, I Love you both.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Hank you played good, gooderrur, and best.
Our special thanks to Ryan Kohut he really earned his dollar and a half this weekend, I hope he is recovering OK. I wonder how many pounds of Steel Guitars he moved?????
Yes Buck and Mitzi will be there next year!!!!!

Barbara and I got home pretty well exhausted after the eleven hour ride from Branson, but it was a "good' tired feeling. We both had a great time and the show was terrific. This was my first time to be part of the OzSGA show and I had a ball. The food was great and the hospitality on the same level.
I'd like to thank Terry Bethel and the OzSGA for having me be apart of the staff band this year. The musicians in the band are masters of their instruments. It was such a pleasure to work with Dino Strunk(guitar), Chuck Landry(drums), Mike Magee(bass), Max King(bass),Russ Burns(drums) and Buddy Lewis(bass). These guys were just awesome.
All of the steel guitarist on the show brought their "A" game and what a show they gave a very receptive audiencs. I'd be remis if I didn't mention the show that the WRIGHT brothers put on. Joe and David you guys are super. They were great and "sooooooo" entertaining. Hey Steel boy....this piano boy had a great time and thanks for the nice compliment.
Thanks again to all of the people in the OzSGA association and the folks who came to see the show, you made me and Barbara feel so welcome. The Good Lord willing we'll be back again next year.

Post  Posted 26 Jul 2010 7:07 pm     How to describe a Steel Show?

My girlfriend was trying to describe to her friend what a Steel Show was. The friend wanted to know if it was a contest, and my girlfriend said NO. After a lot of thought my girlfriend said, "It is more like a recital". For some reason that struck me as funny.
Terry, thank you for the nice things you said about my playing. I hope I kept it COUNTRY enough for everyone. I had a lot of compliments, especially on tone. Mike McGee told me how much he liked the sound of my rig and that was impressive coming from a great player like Mike. I found the compliments on tone very interesting, because I went back to bare bone basics. Before I headed to Branson I told myself, "I hope they like straight steel guitar and not a bunch of effects." I decided against using rack mount multi-effects. The only effect I was running was a simple DD3 delay , Nashville 1000 amp and a pedal made by a guy in Ozark, Missouri. I tried to play some "different" types of material. Play like Keith Hilton and avoid trying to be a Ray Price Clone! The first tune I played was a instrumental I wrote. I had a lot of fun. I know a show like this takes a lot of work by a lot of people. Let me say a thanks, not only to Terry, but to all the people who worked so hard to make this show possible. THANK YOU!

Thanks to Terry B., Jerry and Venda H., Charlie and Rosemary S. (the hardest working man in Branson this weekend), Bill M., Dino, Roy R., Russ B., Chuck L, Adam G., Mike M., Max K., Buck and Mitzi G., Randy S. and everyone else that helped out to make the Ozark Steel Guitar Association Super Show possible this weekend. Everyone put everything they had into the show and it worked. The show turned out fantastic. I am always inspired when I get a chance to be around and play music with great musicians (not to mention an audience full of musicians). You have to bring your A game. Also I really appreciated the opportunity to see old familiar faces and meet new pickers as well. I don't always get that opportunity playing my regular gigs. The Ozark Steel Guitar Association and all of it's members are like family to me and I really appreciate their friendship. Thanks also for the award that the association gave me on Sunday. I will keep it displayed prominently. Thanks to all of the great steel guitar players that participated in the show. What a great group of guys (and gals). Thanks also for all the help getting the equipment in and out of the building. "Good Job!" to everyone.

I forgot to mention two things in my earlier post. One is that we were so thrilled to have Roy on piano this year. He did a wonderful job. He and Barbara are just the sweetest folks.

The second: My favorite set this year was Dean Holman (not sure on the spelling of his last name, sorry Dean.) He just plays so well and puts his heart and soul into his music. He is a gentleman as well. Great job Dean. We hope to hear you play again next year.

I had a lot of fun and was proud to get to play on the show. All of the steel guitarist came to play and were top notch. And, as has already been said, you don't get a better band anywhere in the world.
But the hardest workers were the OSGA officers. They put it all together. I love all of you like brothers and sisters.

Thank you Dana. You did get my last name right. I think I'm going to record "Go Rest High" on a steel project in the near future. That song is so pretty on the steel. I am so proud of Austin as he is doing a tremendous job. I know you are very proud of him too. I feel he is going to go very far as talented as he is. I'm glad you enjoyed my set.
