Does anybody know anything about a movie about Hank Garland called "Crazy"? I have been hearing for a couple of years that there is one coming out, but I have never seen anyplace where I could order a copy. Here is a link to the website, but it has not been updated for a long time:

Roy Ayres may have more info on it. But, Roy is in the process of moving and I don't know if he's on-line yet.

Jack,

I'm back on line now -- and on a high-speed cable hook-up.

I think that Hank's brother, Billy and wife, Amy still maintain Hank's email account. They should be able to answer your questions about the movie. I think, also, that they still use Hank's Forum registration, so if you email them they may want to post an update on the movie.

I don't want to put their email address into this post for obvious reasons, but if you will email me via the Forum email function, I will reply with the email address.

This movie is apparently available on DVD now. I ordered mine off of Amazon, but have not received it yet. I thought others might have been waiting for it to be released, too.

There was a link here on the forum some time ago and you could watch it in something like maybe 20 minute segments. I watched it, not too bad, but typical Hollywood playing loose with the facts. Still, I enjoyed it.

My wife and I rented it at Blockbuster and watched it last night. While it does take some liberties with the facts as I understand them, the film has some very good points: Dean Parks and Larry Koonze did the the guitar work, which is excellent including the "Jazzwinds" material, there are some really nice guitars in the film including a L-5C, and excellent steel work by Greg Leicz (sp-sorry). It does capture the flavor of the times IMHO pretty well and I have to hand it to the Excutive Producer for having the guts to make a film for a narrow, niche market-Steve Vai, who also makes a cameo as Hank Williams. I recommend it.

This movie was on youtube in its entirety last year and I watched it. I was pretty disappointed with it, but there was some nice eye candy and some good music.

That's a shame. I've never seen it. But I will soon. The main reason I wanted to see it is because Mandy Barnett plays Patsy Cline in it.

Shawn Colvin does a pretty good job as Kitty Wells also. Sorry to hear Mr. Hatcher was more than unhappy with the film. There have been very few films made that feature or spotlight guitar players specifically.Even if they are way wide of the facts, it's kind of nice to see one. Woody Allen's "Sweet and Lowdown" was entertaining with a killer soundtrack featuring Howard Alden and Bucky Pizzarelli. If you want just the facts, the documentry "Talmage Farlow" is an outstanding film about one of the greatest guitar players of all time and includes concert footage that is totally captivating. Just curious Mr. Hatcher, what did you find so offensive about "Crazy"?

I would like to see the movie sometime. But, I have to agree that most of this type movie moves so far from reality with all the liberties that Hollywood takes that I lose interest in them. I tried to watch "I walk the line" and after the first 20 minutes I turned it off.

Same here, but did finely watch the whole show and complained about every scene.
I did watch the Hank Garland movie, and loved the instruments and music, but once again complained about every scene.

I worked for 7 years, doing Florida winter tours, with Tommy Cash and got a lot of info and stories about his father, brother and June first hand. That's probably why I can't watch the "I walk the line" movie.

I did a week with Tommy, about 20 years ago, playing guitar in a pickup band. Then one of the guys I'm working with now was married to Cindy Cash back in the '90s. So I bet I've heard some of those same stories.

I ordered the Crazy CD from my NetFlix account after reading the post yesterday as my curiocity got the best of me.
It will be here Saturday.
I'll see how much of it I believe or not.
Most movies fill the holes to make them more appealing and take great liberties in telling the actual events.

I'm really interested to hear reviews from forum members on this film. Those of us who had not hit the ground yet during the time period or had the chance to meet/work with the "legends" are able to get a glimpse of what it must have have like, even if not completely accurate.
Plus I dig the Stromberg cutaway on the DVD cover-that alone would make me watch it. Check out the Byrdland in the movie too. Very Happy
