I had a earlier post about my new Gretch 6string lap having noise when picking strings. Well I just got it back from having a new Gretch humbuckler put on very inexpensive. The sound is warm and nice to play. When I got it back it was tuned to open G. When I sat down to try it out I was suprised as how easy it was for me to play. Is their any material on the Dobro G tuning to learn on? Thanks in advance for the help. Bob Moore

There are probably more instructional materials (video, tab, etc.) for open G tuning than any other tuning for lap steel guitar. Most of it is designed for acoustic guitar players, specifically Dobro® style resophonic guitar, but will translate quite well to the electric lap steel.
What styles would you like to learn?

I do country gospel and I would like to play the dobro to. I don't have one but if I learn to play in on my lap steel I should't have a problem. Thanks Bob

Gospel Dobro by Ken Eidson and Tom Swatzell sounds like just the thing you'd like, then.
Lessons with Troy has some gospel dobro material as well.

Hi Bob,

I've worked up about a dozen Old Time Gospel book tunes Brad suggests, transposing the lower G and B strings to D and G and it transposes well to lap steel. The book's CD gives you something play against while learning, too.

Hope this helps.
