To all of you that are complaining that the steelguitar is dying, this is one of the chances to bring it alive!

In Chanos, France, a steelguitarmeeting will be held from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 September, 2010

In a very easy, friendly atmosfere with nice people, food, drinks, nice bed and breakfast, hotels, the most beautifull landscape, you can meet steelguitarfriends.
Players, listeners, their wives Smile, you can get lessons, buy stuff you need, talk about repairs, enjoy the wine and French Cuisine, etc. etc. and : The European Steelguitar Hall of Fame!

http://www.waikiki-islanders.com/esghof.htm
Last year, Sarah Jory was inducted.

We don't have St-Louis uphere, we have Chanos.
I would like to ask every European player to consider visiting this meeting.
A Dutch delegation will go, and I know some German friends are going too.
Try to carpool, don't talk about it, do it!!
http://chanos-isgf.org/

One month later, on the 16. of October, you get the chance to take steelguitarlessons in Apeldoorn, Holland at the ministeeldays.
http://www.harriebrekelmans.com/steeldays2010/

To all complainers, it's in your own hands and don't tell you didn't know.. Smile

Please, spread the word and I hope to see you in Chanos and Apeldoorn!

Regards,
Johan Jansen

I wonder why b0b is smiling ?? Question Question

And Yes b0b, eight is enough, I've been making quite acceptable sounds on my 8 stringers for the past 50 years or so, and STILL use my Fender 1000, 400 and Stringmaster to a greater extent than ANY of my other guitars (and I have a few!)

Ditto. They only unchain my ankles for a few weeks a year and I usually spend that time visiting England. Smile

I've just booked my tickets - it will be one of the few opportunities, anywhere near me, to watch other players and pick up a few hints and tips.

Johann:

I don't know what your involvement is, but someone should be aware that it is not possible to book tickets online for the concert on 17th. The link to PayPal doesn't work (on either the French or English pages)

Johan - Thanks for the plug. You're right it's a great place to host a Steel Guitar Festival.

This year we're adding a rolling jam session in the parish hall and an acoustic jam session outside the village cafe so as to attract the locals.

Graeme I received your payments this morning and was wondering who you were - now I know. Why are you not playing at the festival?

I checked out the link for buying the concert tickets and the both work fine. I didn't actually buy a ticket but I enetred my PayPal identity and got in. Did you get that far?

We've engaged three excellent French Steel Guitar players for the Friday Steel Guitar Concert - it's bound to be a terrific evening.

Because I have owned a psg for only a couple of months!

I'm in no readiness to play in front of others at this time - maybe next year Wink . This year, I'm hoping I will pick up things by watching those who can play.

No - I didn't get anywhere near that far.

I went to this page - http://chanos-isgf.org/CISGF%202010%20concert%20Lightbox/concert%202010.html - and tried clicking on the "Buy Now" link at the bottom left of the page. Nothing happens on either the French or English pages. I managed to purchase tickets and meals (as you have seen) so those links worked for me, but not for the dinner.

Greame

Try buying the tickets for the Concert. Should work now.

By the way, bring you guitar anyhow. We have a common room where we just meet and chat and pick and play.

WBS Guitars and Riani Guitars will both have stands in the common room. So you can meet up with Walter Bednarz (Germany) and Roberto Riani (Italy) and check out their instruments.

Still doesn't work for me, so I've done as you suggested in your PM.

Hmmmm....I'll think about that. I really don't believe I have reached any sort of level of competence yet.

One of the reasons I wanted to go was to see other instruments and players. There are neither within many miles of me.

Another reason is my wife will be shopping for wine Smile .

Hi Johan, I also wish that I could be at your show. I was in Paris one time and got the opportunity to meet several of the top steel players. Yean Eves Lozach, Clauge Sumard, Francis Fema and others. That was many years ago and I had two suitcases full of my Midland Records to show to people. In fact, I set up a dealer in Paris and sent them a lot of LP's. I'm still waiting for the money. Anyway, have fun and I applaud you for your promotion of the Steel Guitar. Scotty - International Steel Guitar Convention, St. Louis, Missouri USA

Scotty ?? Did you not read Digby Hardy's answer ?

Of course Johan HAS contributed greatly to the promotion of the steel guitar in Europe and his "SteelDays" (click link) is an unqualified success, BUT the Chanos International Steel Guitar Festival is organised by a committee chaired by Digby Hardy..

Maybe you should click THIS link and find out more..

The names of the Laureates of 2010 admitted into the European Steel Guitar Hall of Fame are now published on the ESGHoF web site.
No wonder B0b is smiling !

The award ceremony will take place on 18 September at the Chanos International Steel Guitar Festival, Chanos Curson, France

If you want to make a nomination for ESGHoF 2011 all you have to do is become a member.

I have to ask what Lloyd Green is doing in the list. I can see Bobby Lee Quazar to a certain extent, because his creation of the Steel Guitar Forum has helped European steelers.

Alan, LLoyd Green appeared at numerous Wembley Country Festivals, and the LLoyd Green Shobud sold throughout Europe in vast quantities, PLUS his albums released over here were the inspiration to most of the current crop of players not only in the UK but also throughout Europe.

As I have said on a post on the Steel Payers section:
Quote:
Bobby Lee (our b0b) by creating the Steel Guitar Forum has unwittingly opened a huge door for European players into the steel guitar world. One of our finest British players (not BH) told me the other day that the forum allows access to information and products that would have been impossible without it. Undoubtedly it has had a powerful effect on the recent development of the steel guitar in Europe. Most players here dip into it regularly. Just ask them.

It's great to hear such positive comments here and to Ken Byng's post also in the Steel Players section.

Yep, I'm a Brit living in Germany and I only recently joined the Forum. I've spent the last few hours overwhelmed by the amount of info here. Great idea and well worth the 5 dollars.
