I recently was looking for a copy of Charlie Pride Live at Panther Hall and this guy contacts me and says he can make me a studio copy. I sent him $20.00 and he e-mails and says he received the money. That was June 10, and I have not been able to get any reply from him since and no copy of album. It does not matter if it was $20.00 or $2000.00 it was a rip off. His name is Benton Dersch (bntndersch@gmail.com). Signed Off As Ron. It is so sad that a person would go to so much trouble to rip you for only $20.00. Thank You, J.R. Rose

Emails from gmail or any other site that allows free email sevices is where fraud is common. Small price to pay for the lesson. Anytime you get a offer from someone using a free email site, search their email address on Google.

Although there is a lot of fraud from users of the free e-mail services not everyone should be automatically suspect if they have a hotmail or gmail address, for example.

I have a hotmail e-mail address that I use as my "public" e-mail address (including the forum). I know several others that use hotmail or gmail exclusively to avoid having to change e-mail addresses if they change ISP's.

I have also used a FREE email service for years at yahoo and figured I would not change it as things business wise picked up as to not miss any emails and keep things the same .

Graham, just have to say that you are a stand up guy. That is very nice of you to do that for J.R.

Bill O'Reilly would call you a patriot!!!

There are few bad apples out there, but the majority are guys like Graham.

Reminder: Email addresses typed into Forum Posts can be harvested

Some of you are putting your email addresses in plain text in your Posts. This is dangerous to you because spammers send out email harvesting bots on a routine schedule to collect all available addresses from forum and blog posts. Once harvested, your email address will be added to spam databases of live addresses.

Also, scammers read our forums from time to time and collect email addresses when people include them in their posts. They use the email addresses they collect to send any scams.

Unfortunately, this is what actually happened to J.R. Rose.

Peter,
Would one be safe typing an email address backwards? How about separating the letters and numbers with dashes? Or leaving out the "@" and explaining in text to remove the dashes, or where to add the "@"????????

John, I believe that leaving out the @ would prevent the email-harvesting worms from getting your email address. It is, however, a totally different story if the email address interceptor is a real live person, as I believe it was in this case. Then, nothing is safe, except to ignore the email they send you. The only safe way is when someone emails you via the forum.
Forum emails are safe, since the only ones who can email you are members.

John, Bent said it all! Very Happy

In addition, it is always a good idea to be aware who the scammers are.

b0b is helping all of us by adding a sticky in the For Sale section entitled:
"Notice: Do Not Deal With This Non-Member"

Here is the link:
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=187021

J.R. Rose, I noticed that you accidentally published your private email address inside your forum posts on a couple of occasions.

That is how the scammer got your email address...

Hope this helps.

JR Rose,
The scammer has requested the Panther Hall CD on a pirate website called BITSARAH.COM.
The scammer used his alias "c6thpicker", so you know who THAT is.

The actual CD was posted yesterday 7 August at 7.36 PM on BITSARAH,
so the scammer could be downloading it right now.

I suspect he might send it to you soon, just in a feeble effort
to clear his name (or whatever is left of it).

It strikes me as humorous that Mr.Peter den Hartogh can point fingers at others..Do not believe me -- google his name and you will see an archive on this forum from a while back when he was removed from the forum for a scam operation of his very own. Mad

Note from admin (b0b): This is NOT TRUE. Peter's original membership was deleted at his own request. Peter didn't scam anyone.

Why don't you give us the exact link to the archive on this forum that you are referring to, David?

And if I really was removed, why am I still here?

Thank you for your concern, but please do NOT ask b0b to reinstate me.
I do not want to be a member of the forum because the idiots are still there.
I do read the forum and do all my communication via email. This is a much cleaner way.
Regards
Peter den Hartogh

Is this not a email that you sent to a friend of mine who stood up for you and was trying to get you reinstated???
Look closely here and you will see what PETER thinks of the forumites ----- Calling us IDIOTS????
