Guys,
If you had a 10 string steel with no pedals how would you tune it to play Blues and Rock riffs ?

I personally would use a C6 of some sort. If I wasn't me I would look at what the sacred steel guys use. Those guys are amazing at rock/blues on extended tunings. Check out Doug Livingston's non pedal tunings also.

I´d put it in the ONLY tuning I know...all of my Steel
Guitars,pedal,lap,console...are tuned to my C 6th/
4th add 9th ; lo-to-hi:C,E,G,A,C,E,G,A,C,E,D,F...for
a 10-string,omit bottom two...I use this basic tuning
for my 8-,10- & 12-strings...McUtsi |

Guys, I've been thinking about this a lot lately.
I've recently gotten my first D-10 pedal (i know - wrong forum) but have been playing an old Fender D-8 for eons.
I've experimented with tunings for as long as I've been playing and always find myself going back to the 6th tunings. My mainstay on the Fender is A6 and I'm finding so much on the back neck of my new guitar. Every time I hit the selector switch and leave the E9 world I find myself in a tonal playground the depths of which seem endless.
If we're talking non-harmonized rock and blues licks, pretty much any tuning to which a player is accustomed seems like it'll do. For me, I'll stick with my 6ths. |

I'm playing a D-12 non-pedal in a hard-rock/prog-metal/old-guy/who-knows-what kind of band.
Top neck:
F#
D#
G#
E
C#
B
A
G#
E
E
B
E
I have E's and a B on the bottom because sometimes I have to play power chords on that neck. What is more useful is B, C#, E, F# on the bottom.
The bottom neck is:

The D,E,G on the top are for melodic stuff and everything else makes a great power chord. |
