I have a two night business trip next Tuesday and Wednesday to Austin.

Any recommendations as to who might be playing either of those nights?

Is there an Austin 'Weekly' that lists who is playing?

Thanks in advance.

Steve,

I live in San Antonio, about 75 miles from Austin. I don't know much about the Austin scene but I know the Broken Spoke has bands on week nights. Get Herb Steiner to Chime in. He plays a lot there. If you find a place to go give me a call 210 885-7657 and I'll try to come visit. Haven't seen you in over 30 years.

Hey thanks guys.....looks like Wednesday night either Jovitas or catch The Stone River Boys at the Continental.

Roger, it's be great to visit, don't know if I am going to have time to get down south though. I'll be back in late October for sure for a bit longer visit and hopefully see you then if not out in Sacramento.

It's been 25 years since I've been to Austin....I am sure it hasn't changed (lol)

PS....anyone know about Sams BBQ on 12th?

I think Herb Steiner is still playing Tuesdays starting at 6:00 pm CDT with singer Waylon Payne at the Saxon Pub, probably ends by around 8:00 pm:

Saxon Pub
1320 South Lamar
Austin, Texas - 78704
512-448-2552

-and- definitely the Cornell Hurd Band Wednesday 8 - 10 pm at Jovita's, 1619 South First St., Austin, TX 78704
512-447-7825

On Wednesday nights starting at 9:00 pm at the Broken Spoke, usually Dale Watson plays (Don Pawlak on steel), but Dale's on the road next week. Lucas Hudgins and his band featuring the excellent Dave Biller on steel filled the date this week, not sure about next Wed. July 7th, but I highly recommend Lucas and his band. Good honky tonk country, and include some old Texas Troubadours country swing instrumentals.

Broken Spoke

Oh yeah, and I have a weekly radio show (Rancho Del Ray) in Austin on KOOP 91.7 FM from 11:00 am - 1200 noon Central Time, features country, roots, steel guitar and more, streams on www.koop.org
