What some will do to these wonderful guitars.

‘Someone / Somewhere’? Decided to brush paint varnish on to this while the necks were still on, hence pics 1, 3 and 4

Now you see it de-frocked, re-flocked and handled with much TLC!
I hope you approve of the end result!

Bob, I looked at all the refurbish pics on your web site and your work is a joy to behold. Keep going!

Hello...I know this is not quite the same kind of guitar, but I'm now restoring a 1958 Guild jumbo flattop guitar. Some previous owner sprayed the whole guitar with red auto paint! All over the beautiful pearl and abalone, ebony fretboard etc. What kind of weird person would do that? Anyway, that stuff is all gone and the guitar eventually will be as new (I hope).

Mac,
I've had two guitars that had that done to it.
An old EB-O bass; Used NevrDull cotton wadding to remove the paint. The metal polish. Worked well. Abdo-lutely no damage to the original finish.

My 1957 Strat was painted black, like Clapner's, when I got it. I used varying grades of steel wool, then rubbing compound, then polishing compound to get it back to it's original custom color, San Marino Blue.

Bob! Wonderful job. Also enjoyed your site.

A friend of mine showed me an old Martin archtop guitar that he had bragged about for some time. "Those old Martin sunbursts are really something." Anyway, when he pulled it out of the case, my jaw dropped (as he snickered). It was sunburst allright, but obviously done by a skilled custom motorcycle painter. It was beautiful, but looked more like a chopper than a guitar. Nice metalflake airbrush work! It must be seen to be believed!
