Has anyone used mandolin tuners when making a lap steel?

I used a set of Grover A style on my Deco 8 prototype and they worked like a champ.

I used mandolin tuners when I did my 7-string conversion a few years ago. Stewart McDonald sells a drill guide which I highly recomend.

I had trouble with my emmons 8 strg lap. The tuners became so tight I had to use pliers to tune with. I bought mandolin tuners from Stew Mac and the guitar is easy tuner now. cc
