I have a tuning question
Put new strings on today. I ran into a problem when the 4th string was in tune with the tuning keys the third pedal was slightly out. so I fine tune the pedal in and let the pedal off and the string was out.
If i tuned the string back in with the keys then the pedal would go out.
Anyone know a solution? _________________ Buck Hammock

Buck, it sounds like the nylon tuning nut is overtightened. Try backing it all the way out, tune the open string, then try to tune the C-pedal. |

Thanks Tucker
I tried that but no work.
It is a little tight though but when I back it off and retun the string the c pedal still will not tune correctly _________________ Buck Hammock

When you say that the tuning was 'out' when the C pedal is pressed, do you mean that it was flat, or sharp?
If it's flat, then you need more travel in the C pedal.
Look under the steel (where the C pedal rod hooks up) and you should see an adjusting screw which governs the pedal travel.
Back off the screw one turn.
Back off the nylon tuner two or three turns.
Tune the string to E at the keyhead.
Press the C pedal, and tune the string to F# using the nylon tuner.
If the string is still sharp when you release the pedal, then you need more pedal travel, so repeat the process. |

It sounds like you don't have enough pedal travel, or something is binding...Is the string returning sharp? If so, adjust the pedal stop to give it a bit more travel and see what happens..There should be just a little bit of lost motion after the string has come to pitch..Carson |

Sorry guy (you are an the right track I think. I haven't had to do much adjustin on my mullen in that capacity and it looks like the pedal stop is a 'hard stop" that cannot be adjusted. Can you be more specifis about where the pedal stop/adjust is located.
I really appreciate your help _________________ Buck Hammock

Buck, the pedal stop adjustment should be right where Richard said it was,,right where the pedal hooks on, up under the guitar...If it isn't there,,then I really don't know...Maybe someone who owns a Mullen will chime in here.... |

Once again, thanks
You are correct as far as I can tell. It's a bar with a screw at bottom (guitar turned over)with a screws in one end. All those bars at each peadle are the same of course. If I loosen the screw, does the bar move. Unfortunately, I need an offset screw driver to do this. I'm gonna try it later. I'm leavin for a gig now with my studio steel.
Thanks a bunch for you help and yes, if there are Mullen players out there, pLease help. _________________ Buck Hammock

The Pedal stop on a Mullen is located right behind where the pedal rod hooks into the guitar. There is an 8/32 allen set screw that the pedal linkage will stop against. This would be a 5/64 allen wrench size. Located the screw in question, and loosen or turn left about 1/8 of a turn at a time. My guess is after the first turn you should be able to tune in the pedal with the tuning nut for that string and your problem will be solved. If it is not, then turn the screw another 1/8 turn and check again.
There is an idependent stop for every pedal and knee lever on a Mullen, this is a typical problem when string guages are changed. However it is an easy fix. If you have any problems getting it to work feel free to call me at 970-664-2518.
