The Desert Rose Band is playing in my town in August and I'm wondering if they're going to be a full band or just Hillman, Pederson and Jorgenson. That's my suspicion, as I recently went there (The Birchmere) to see Poco and Pure Prairie League and both bands were just three guys playing six strings. Rusty Young had an S10 Carter on the stage, but only played it on one song, Heart of the Night. What a disappointment, especially at $40 a head.

Heres a portion of a review from May 28, 2010 live show.

"Hillman and his longtime duo partner, Herb Pedersen, joined up once again with guitarist John Jorgenson, steel guitarist Jay Dee Maness, bassist Bill Bryson and drummer Steve Duncan and gamely blazed through their old hits, including “Ashes of Love,” “One Step Forward,” “Love Reunited,” “Price I Pay,” “She Don’t Love Nobody” and a few surprises to keep the near-capacity crowd, and themselves, on their toes."

Since this is a reunion tour and theres only a scant few dates, I'd have to guess Jaydee will be in VA.
Wish they were coming to Seattle Crying or Very sad

you are lucky. JAYDEE IS THE MAN!!!
I can guarantee he wont be playing alot of 6 string that night. You get to hear that awesome solo to hello trouble too i bet. waaaaah, I wanna see this!

Richard, the Forum search function can (sometimes) be your friend. Below is the post I wrote a few weeks ago after seeing Desert Rose here in Sonoma County:

Quote:
As I write this post, The Desert Rose Band is probably wrapping up their set as headliners this evening at the Strawberry Festival in the Sierras near Yosemite. John Jorgenson had his Quintet there earlier today, and their incredible interpretations of Gypsy Jazz.

I couldn't have been more pleased with the show last night in Petaluma at McNear's Mystic Theater. They went through all the hits, and there were a lot of smiles from the stage. Doing this reunion tour bit as a sometime thing seems to suit the boys.

This to me is pretty much as good as it gets. These guys are all such incredible talents. I saw them in San Francisco at Hardly Strictly bluegrass a couple years ago, and at the time that was supposed to be the final, final show. I never got to see them back in the day - our three kids were all born about 16 months apart form 1987-1990, and when Desert Rose was in their touring heyday, we just weren't going to concerts in those years with three rug rats. I am so happy they decided to get back out there for the occasional concert, and last night's was a 25 mile drive from my house.

They are all so outstanding, Chris is a great bandleader and I have been a fan of Herb forever.

And what can any of us say about Jay Dee? Words do not suffice. He put the black Emmons through its paces and then some.

But I have to say, last night Jorgenson stole the show. He is simply one of the finest guitar players on the planet, and a fine vocalist. It was just a jaw dropping exhibition on the Tele, a really cool double neck Danelectro - one neck a 12-string and the other a baritone, A Gretsch Chet Atkins of some kind, and a mandolin. His playing is mind boggling. And now my wife is in love with him!

What I'd give to watch Jay Dee pick to "Start All Over Again"

Hi guys,
I drove to Bakersfiled to see the DRB a few weeks ago and can confirm that it was the entire original band ..... and the be brief.... they were FANTASTIC.
despite having very short time to rehearse before the show they were spot on. Having seen them before I can tell you they have lost none of the magic they displayed years ago. So given that the August shows will be after some gigs to "play the tunes in" I am certain they will be great. Highly recommended.
