Hello, Im looking for an older Rat pedal with the lm308 chip in it. thatwould include all the big box orginals and alot but not all of the reisssues. Its important that the chip not be lm308n or any other chip but the lm308.
I'm also interested in any old effects (I started collecting and repairing much to my wallets chagrin ).
thanks |

Ben, I've got one extra Rat pedal that I think is what you're looking for. It's the first small box version with no LED and has a white background over the lettering and proco logo just to left of lettering. The version from '83 or '84 - '88. Shoot me an email or a call.

Hey Ben, Can you tell me the differences in the Rat pedals. Which ones are the best ones. I have seen the vintage ones that are a big box and I have seen the newer proco 2. There are several of them for sale on the Dallas Craigslist, and I am not sure which one to buy. Thanks a lot. |

Mark, the original RAT is a large case. In 83 they moved to a smaller box with the same electronics with the version known as the white face. It has the proco logo on the front and white background over the lettering and no led. Around 88 they added an led denoting engaged or not and the lettering is white with no background and no logo and still with the same circuitry. After these models the circuitry was changed and the earlier models are going for higher price. Last I checked the white face models were bringing around 200-250 and the next version with the led around 175-200. The newer models considerably less.
You can google up "RAT versions" and see the models and years.
Hope this helps. _________________ www.facebook.com/countrydaveharmonson |

Dave is correct.
The important thing for your tone is that it have the lm308 chip. The early large boxes did. The early small boxes did. The led small boxes did not I dont think?
I ended up buying a small box no led lm308 chipped version for $125 from a music store. ebay prices are higher and Daves white face rat is a collectible and worth more.
SOME of the reissue big box rats (maybe evn most of them) had the lm308 chip, and I see those go for $125 too at the music store, higher on ebay.
I built a Mighty Mouse rat clone from BYOC before I acquired my small box rat. For what its worth, they can get the same tone. |

The old small-box LM308 Turbo Rat is also great - I love mine. Sometimes they're more affordable. |
