A Portland friend whose projects I've been in over the years, Vicki Ambinder interviewed Steve recently, and I thought I'd pass it on.
Her Part III of III Steve Fishell Interview.
Great player, Great Interview.
I edited the original for this to include previous comments.
Thanks again to Steve for putting this out, and to Vicki for her friendship MUSIC and writing.

Great interview! Thanks for link, Eric.
Steve is just right on the money, some excellent answers to the questions.
I have to get off to work, but I see there are also interviews with Sam Bush and Todd Snider, so I'll have some reading to do this evening. _________________ Mark |

Steve Fishell. First, one of the best commercial recording steel guitarists ever, with a descretionary ear for excellence. Second, selfless and open minded to new ideas with an appreciation and reverence for the history of steel guitar and it's inovators. Lastly, a caring, articulate gentleman, whom I'm proud to know and call my friend. |

Thank you all very much. If I ever get the blues I'll just remember this thread.
To Tommy: I've been a huge fan of your steel playing since hearing your first solo album, which Eddie Black played for me in Los Angeles around 1976. Your mastery of the steel guitar is just staggering to me; your courtesy and kindness towards others sets a very high example to follow. You are a true leader on our instrument and I'm not worthy of what you've said, but nonetheless I am humbled and very grateful. Thank you for your friendship.

Great interview of a GREAT player.
Thanks Steve and Vicki.
And Mr White for stating what so many of us feel so well, even without knowing him personally.

His playing on the Marshall Crenshaw song "Vague Memory" ( sorry no U-Tube or MP3 ) allways gives me goosebumps. |
