We were ALL young back then -- 1981 or 82 I'd guess. I remember it well. Mike had turned me on to ZumSteel guitars a few years after he did 'Dreams of India' (which was recorded on a push-pull) when I had a couple of lessons at his home in Nashville. He showed up in St. Louis several years later. Mike's playing has always blown me away -- a musician who happens to play steel guitar. I have used the ideas he showed me to this day.
I also remember some little girl -- er, young lady -- hanging around the Franklin booth every year. Wonder who that might be. We'd ask when Paul was going to make an appearance. He was always on the road with Tillis or Jerry Reed at the time.
Ah . . . memories.
Did I get those dates about right, Miguel?
