I passed through Clovis, New Mexico during the spring of one year--between 1971 and 1973.

Went into a saloon of some kind and saw a guy singing and playing steel. I am not sure, but it may have been a solo act--no one else on the bandstand.

It's rare enough to see a singing and possibly unaccompanied steel player, but what was even stranger was that he was singing "Lonely Weekends"--the big Charlie Rich hit from 1960---at a slow tempo, much unlike the original recording.

I don't recall his age, but that's nearly 40 years ago, so he would likely be between 65 and deceased now.

I am guessing he was from the general area of a few hundred miles around Clovis and West Texas.

Who was that??

There can't be many singing steelers out there who would do something so unusual as to take that song at a slow tempo.
