Topic: Identify This Fender Lap Please |

An old friend dropped by last week and
showed me a Fender steel he bought at
a pawn shop. It has four legs ( not pictured )
Brad, I do not see this model on your
site in the vintage guitar section?
Here are a few pics. Let me know so
I can pass the info on to him.

Fender Deluxe 8. Sometimes (incorrectly) called a single neck Stringmaster because it has "Stringmaster features".
Fender made two different versions of the Deluxe... the early '50s one with trapezoid pickup and later this one with two string-over pickups. Fender did this with a lot of their products, particularly the amps... they kept the same model names over the years even though the versions were upgraded and changed radically over the years.

Thanks Doug and Michael.
I said 4 legs but I am not sure on that as
we played the steel on my stand in the pics.
That was an assumption on my part.
I also wondered if the guitar was painted
or if that might be the original color?

I always found the strings on the Fender steels
too close to the fret board.
I have a ten string single which is off a
Fender 2000 and it is the same.
I have to adjust to play them but they are
great instruments.

Doug is right,I have one just like it,same color brown,three legs black case.fender deluxe 8 string,I purchase new about 1960 in Tampa FL, a great sounding steel.I enjoy playing it just as much as playing my D10 Sho~Bud,Keep on a picking.

Looks to me like a double neck stringmaster that has had a neck removed. I had a double neck string master in the late fifties and seem to remember a bolt going through the necks and could remove a neck. I may be wrong as i have slept since then.
Any one know for sure about this. What i remember about the stringmaster is the beautiful soft tone it had.
A friend of mine back then who was a monster on the C 6th and showed me a bunch on it had a vey high iq but no mechinal savy. He had a double neck and wanted a single C6h only and took a hand saw and sawed one neck off. instead of removing two nuts and pulling the shaft out.
I believe this was the Fender as he also had a Bigsby. Have a picture of him with the Bigsby if i can find it. He used to come over to the house and show me things on the c6h and i would try and show him things on the E 9th which he coulden't grasp. He said he had to have more patience when showing me stuff.
The problem was he hated country music or rather hated playing it. Some one could name a country song and he would say if he had to play that he would quit. I know some of you other old timers are going to know who i am talking about. I have said too much already. Tracy
BTW. I think Bobbe Seymore has this Bigsby. If you should happen to read this Bobbe,how about it? And no name please as he passed on years ago. |

This steel is beaten and shows it's age
but it has not been "hacked" and is definitely
not a cut - off half of a Stringmaster.
I beleive Doug got it in his initial post.
