Branson Jam

Good people who missed the Branson Jam this Sunday really missed out on something great. All of the performers were nothing short of great, and of course Russ and Lany Hicks, Tom Brumley, as well as Theawfulist(Joe Wright) made the audience clap for more. If you haven't heard Lany sing, or have one of her CD's I suggest you get one at your earliest convenience. My favorite lady singers are Jeannie Bryant, Dottie West, Patsy Cline, Jeannie Seely, and Connie Smith. Lany makes you think of all these great singers when she sings. They ain't nobody else who can do that I'll betcha. This lady has class. She has more talent in her little finger than most of the "new" NashTrash "hot chick" singers have in their whole body. Can't wait for next year's jam. Thanks Terry, Roger, Dave, et. al. who pulled it off, and to all the performers who did such a great job.

Just wanted to say thanks to Terry and ALL the O.S.G.A. for all the hard work they put in to have the Branson show. The BAND WAS GREAT!!!!! All the pickers and singers did a good job. Jerry and Austin had a VERY GOOD TIME. If you didn't get to come this year make time for it next year. I know it's only one day, but it is one of the best show's around. That says it all! Russ is a great guy, and a heck of a picker, and all-around musician, (Guitar, Bass,Trumpet and even Vibes). Laney? She's a Sweetheart! And a fantastic singer. I couldn't make the Branson Show, but I hope to see these good friends in St. Louis.

I had a fun time in Branson seeing all my friends. I thought Buck Grantham had a really great sound. I bet Buck felt right at home playing with two Cajun boys, my long time friends Chuck and Wade Landry. All of the players were wonderful. I was impressed by Clay Cooper's bass playing. The young drummer was outstanding. Of course Brian Sterling and Milton Quackenbush did a wonderful job. The Massengales were wonderful on fiddles. I did not know Russ Hicks was using one of my pedals, until Bruce Zumsteg brought it to my attention in the restroom. I felt honored that 98% of the players were using my pedal. I just wish I could play like those players. Even though I can't play like those guys, it is a really great feeling seeing them using something I made. Let me say thanks to all those using my product--it means a lot to me! Also got to visit with someone else I admire. Donna Newberry, Jerry Newberry's wife, and Austin's Grandmother. Some of you may not know it, but Donna is a world champion bass fisherwoman. She won the world title a couple of years back, and always places in the top of that sport. I told Jerry that Donna is a lot more famous than he is---just kidding. Skeeter boats is just one of Donna's sponsors. Ran into several people I used to play with, Gary Adkins, Dean Billingsley,Earl Vaughn, and many others. It was good to see my dear friend Roger Osborne. Also visited with my dear friend Scott Henderson. Seemed to me like the attendance was up this year. We need to thank Terry Bethel for the work he put into making this event happen! On the way home I listened to the CD Bobby Flores sent me. I must of listened to the one tune on the CD 10 times---"How long is forever, this time".
I love steel guitars and fiddles.

Terry--What can I say man - ?? You pulled off another great one and under very trying circumstances this year. Do you realize just how many people hold you dear as a friend ??
The back up band simply blows me away !! Bruce and Wade are something else and they enjoy it big time--that's what shows through in their entertainment.
Got to see our old friends from Iowa DeVere and Ruby Adamson who used to have DeVere's music store in Indianola--now retired. They were here to hear Keven Clemons (amounst others) who came from Iowa many years ago and DeVere was involved with helping him get started.
By the way, was I stretching the truth when I said "this man can flat bring it ?"
I'm still trying to hear some of the notes he played--like DeVere said "my ears don't hear that fast"
Great job--all involved and concerned !! -

WOW…Where to start! I had wanted to attend this show for several years and this was the perfect opportunity. The show started at 11 am and when we walked into the beautiful Baldknobber Theater I knew we were going to be in for a treat.

Terry Bethel started off by saying that this would be the best lineup of talent they had for the show. I couldn’t judge this show against earlier shows but this turned out to be a great lineup.

Of course we all know Russ and Laney Hicks, Joe Wright and Terry Bethel and they all played, as we would figure they would – fantastic!

Branson is loaded with great players. How many of us have even heard of Dean Holman? He works with the Stone County Line Band with Terry Bethel. Yes TWO fantastic steel players on one show. Terry stated he thinks Dean is one of the top dobro players maybe only behind Jerry Douglas. You think he plays great dobro you have to hear him play steel. WOW. Then I find out Dean worked with Ricky Skaggs on the road for a time. Now he is in Branson along with many other players I have never heard of but all were great. Also want to mention eleven-year-old (yes I did say 11 year old) Austin Stewart. If he decides to stay with it all I can say is watch out. Already has great technique and is greased lightning!

I knew I shouldn’t have started that last segment cause I could go on and on and on. BUT I have to finish off with the BRANSON CONNECTION BAND. Terry said he thought he had put together the top players in Branson and OH MY. All of these guys were great and putting them together for this show was as good as you will find. Special mention to the TWIN FIDDLES that were on this show. Yes I said TWIN FIDDLES that knew how to play and when to play. Bruce Hoffman and Wade Landry were as good as I have ever heard working together. And yes I have seen Tillis and the Statesiders and all the rest. I spoke to Wade Landry and he told me he and Bruce had played together a lot and you could sure tell it.

OK…I have gone on long enough but just had to let you know about the Branson show. If you get the chance next year plan on going!
Terry you and the rest of the guys did a great job of putting on this show. I know how much work goes into these shows and good luck in the future!

I told you so!!! That's what I wanted to do about a third of the way into the show. I wanted to stand up and say, "I told you so". If you readers remember I told you that Terry needed some 'happy' and I felt having a good crowd there would make him happy and I was 100% right because he was happy. I've read all these comments that have come in and they are SO true. All I can say is multiply it by a thousand and it was still better than that.

Thanks for the invitation to do your great show. The "conditions" were spoiling. Russ reminds me often that these are "STEEL GUITAR SHOWS NOT THE GRAND OLE OPRY" but I must admit, this time I had the hardest time of all leaving the stage. With my favorite steel player (don't tell him I said that) and excellent twin fiddles and back up band, I WANTED TO SING!!! I know, these are Steel Guitar shows, not the Grand Ole Opry...
Anyway, you put on a first class show, Terry!
And... I understand that SteelRadio.com is going to be rebroadcasting it very soon, so ya'll might want to check into that! The whole show really was top notch; just didn't last long enough.
I THINK WE NEED OUR OWN THEATRE.

My wife and i were there for our second time and it just keeps gettin better. The Branson Band is the best, anywhere. The steel players, enough good can't be said, what great talent.
