I am going to be in Savannah on business this weekend and into next week. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find some steel guitar and country music in Savannah? Thanks in advance. Joel |

Damon and the Sh*tkickers are playing twice on Sat the 19th : happy hour at the Jinx 6pm-8pm, and then Peg Leg Pete's on River street at 9pm with yours truly on pedal steel. Pretty fun old school country music if you disregard very mediocre steel playing. _________________ SHO-BUD Professional SD-10 Black, SHO-BUD Pro III Custom D-10 Red, Goodrich Matchbox 6A, Steeler's Choice seat, Quilter Steelaire Amps. |

Even though not directly related to PSG, I would take the time to visit Bob Benedetto's shop there. Maybe place an order if you have just won the lottery |

Joel, sorry I didn't get to the forum in time to give you directions on Sat.
BTW, two guys in the band work for Benedetto guitars, includind Matt Eady - a former Gibson custom shop guy and Damon Mailand, who is a master luthier and the namesake in "Damon and the Sh*tkickers". Small world, isn't it? _________________ SHO-BUD Professional SD-10 Black, SHO-BUD Pro III Custom D-10 Red, Goodrich Matchbox 6A, Steeler's Choice seat, Quilter Steelaire Amps. |

Yes, small world indeed! Those guys are creating some outstanding instruments for sure and if I was anywhere near that area you couldn't keep me away. Does either guy use a Benedetto on your band gigs? Maybe a Benny... |

Hi, Mark. To answer your question - No, none of us are playing Benedetto guitars. Those things are absolute works of art, that you wouldn't dare to bring into a smoky bar. Also, we play simple and rowdy sing/drink along country music and there's no need for a fine Jazz boutique guitar, not to mention the fact that we'd have to play 80-100 gigs a week to save up for a downpayment on a Bennedetto. Damon plays a telecaster shaped guitar that he built called DWM (his initials), that thing has a beautiful laquer finish over tiger maple, plays like butter and many folks have thought about stealing it once they had a chance to play it for a minute. Damon builds a fine instrument for Bob and on his own. Our lead player - Matt Eady plays a (SURPRISE!!!!) squire strat. Having been a custom shop man for both Gibson and Benedetto he has used a couple of tricks to make that thing into a superb sounding and playing guitar, and boy does it throw guitar players for a loop when they hear a squire sound so good. Its like having a racing engine in an old rust bucket klunker, beating a Porche at a red light and confusing the hell out of the guy driving it. If you're ever in Savannah, I'm sure the guys will be happy to talk fine jazz guitars with you, they do it almost as much as I talk Steel .. well, may be not as much... _________________ SHO-BUD Professional SD-10 Black, SHO-BUD Pro III Custom D-10 Red, Goodrich Matchbox 6A, Steeler's Choice seat, Quilter Steelaire Amps. |
