Has anybody tried these bridges by hip shot.
My main question would be do they stay in tune, when you change the key? _________________ If you worry more about the tools your building with than what your building, you'll never get anything Built

Rickey,
I installed a Hipshot Trilogy on my Fender 72 RI Telecaster Custom. There are two hex screws on each saddle. You can set them up any way you like. Once adjusted, it stays in tune very well. I set mine to standard tuning when all levers are down (column 1 below). Pulling any lever up lowers that string.

My favorite alternate tunings with the Hipshot are:
High E to D for slide guitar,
Low E to D for Drop D tuning,
DADF#AD for Open D tuning
DGDGBD for open G tuning á la Keith Richard
CGCGGE for open C tuning á la Soundgarden's Burden In My Hand
I think there's something like 729 permutations of alternate tunings with this thing!

I have put a Hipshot Trilogy on a couple of lap guitars.
Here is the latest:
I can get three lap tunings: A6th, C6th and C#m7th. |

Excellent Erv, That's pertty much what I'm after, with the exception I bought parts from all over the place! Are you getting lots of good tones from it and are you getting hit in your fore arm when you play? Thank you very much for the sharing of your info and your images. _________________ If you worry more about the tools your building with than what your building, you'll never get anything Built

Rickey,
I'll post a few more pictures.
I put a "RedNeck" from Lonnie Specter on the Strat and then added the Hipshot Trilogy at a little later date. I also added a roller nut.
It makes for a very interesting lap steel.

Rickey,
Here's a pic of my Tele.

Everyone here knows black guitars sound better, and this just made mine a bit more black!
It doesn't get in the way of the forearm at all, but the string height screws are a bit long. You may choose to cut or file them down once setup, so that they are the same height as the saddles and don't poke into your palm if you have a tendency to rest your palm there as I do.

I have one on one of my Telecasters for mainly slide playing. I have heavier strings on this particular Tele and have the guitar tuned to standard guitar tuning with each lever lowering each string a half and whole tone. That way I can get open D, open G, dropped and double dropped D, DADGAD and sometimes use a C note on the 4th string for a drone. Also I use a lot of graphite powder in the nut slot(s) and on the bridge pieces..........JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Rickey,
I use SIT Power Wound light guage nickel strings on all my 6 string electric guitars including the Hipshot Tele.

I got one of these for my El Cheapo Johnson resophonic square neck a few years ago from my old pal Dave Borisoff at Hipshot. On a spider cone, they do need minor adjustments at the tuners after you make a change, but all in all it's way faster than just the manual way to change a tuning. The roller nut is a must! I know a purest tone freak would probably roll his eyes, but it's good enough for me. I've always wanted to try one on a more stable lap steel that doesn't flex like a rezo.
Here's a PDF file of my setting that I gave Dave to put on the Hipshot website. I basically use a standard gauge Dobro set for this and it works fairly well, even considering the large distance I've got set on my low string.
