I'm sure that most of us has played with different people that we have lost track of over the years and I think this is a great place to find them. I have several that I would like to locate.
Dale Bates is the first one I will try to locate . He is a very good left handed Guitar player and sings also. He lived and played in the Sacramento California Area for many years, went to Seattle for a while and the last I heard was in Oklahoma. He played with us on the old Easy Livin Country TV show for a short while. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVXmTaTCdAs
This is a link to a you tube video that he is singing and playing on. If you know his where about let me know.

Hey Kenny, what period of time was that when you worked with Dale? I remember him when I was living in the SoCal area. He played around there for a while and also was married to (female vocalist) Kenny Huskey (daughter of Julia & Bill) who was on Buck Owens' Ranch Party TV show for a spell. I liked Dale's playing a bunch especially since he played with a thumbpick (like you're supposed to)...JH in Va.

This was in the early 80's and he just kinda disappeared from around the Sacramento Area, then I ran into a guy named Powell Littleton and he said he had been working with Dale in Oklahoma and that's the last I have heard from him. When I posted that video of Barbara some people started asking if I knew where he was so I just thought I'd try to find him, between the Steel Guitar Forum and Facebook someone has surely ran into him. You are right about the thumb pickin and he was real easy to work with on Steel, didn't try to play on top of every lick you hit.

dale was fun to play with and i've wondered about his whereabouts also. unfortunately, dale and a few other of my favorite pickers left under a dark cloud of questionable behavior.

After I moved back to Mississippi, I lost track of quiet a few people so I hadn't heard a lot about the questionable behavior. I didn't hear a lot about behavior period, either good or bad. I like the communications better now, I can kinda keep up with some of the happenings, like with you and Rick and Joe and Larry King and Dave Wren. I hear from Brownie and Jimmy Gray and Jay Riley ever now and again and also Mike Scaggs and Dave Westmoreland. Anyway I hope some of us hear from old Dale and see what he has been up to.

i wondered what johnny was doing lately also. hasn't shown himself in sac for quite sometime. kenny, intrestingly enough, i heard a new recording of barbara the other night... singing some real solid country...sounded just wonderful as i would have suspected. so many great pickers from sac have gone through some interesting twists and turns in life but are still doing it. i'm going over to jim gray's for a lesson this month.

I don't take any Steel Lessons anymore. I CAN'T Remember them . Someone sent me a note and said that Barbara had died last year...Hope that isn't true.

Some of Johnny family said he had just disappeared and that he had always kept close touch with his family. I thought some of the pickers around the country might have an idea where he is these days

Thanks for the info Kenny, it's nice to know where all the "old" SoCal pickers wound up, they're spread all over the USA from one end to the other.....JH in Va.
