Thanx to Wally Pfeifer for sending this to me.
While not as extensive as other remembrance threads I've posted, this one is in the words of Billy's great friends, Jerry Byrd and Lorene Ruymer. http://www.pedalpro.co.uk/folderIndex/folderHTML/News2010BillyHewLen01.html

This section of an old PBS Hawaii video, circa 1970 of Billy on his Fender 400, Sonny Chillingsworth, and Myra English (all gone now), from Waikiki's Blue Dolphin Room (also long gone) is hopefully still available in total and decent quality from forumite Mike Ihde at mihde@berklee.edu. and includes the outdoors 'Hawaiian Rainbow' video show of Billy w/Genoa Keawe and Pauline Kekauhuna at UH's Andrews Amphitheater, a portion of which is shown in the link.
This 1/2 hr. PBS show was always a must see whenever they'd rebroadcast it, which they never do now. Classic performances by such wonderful musicians and personalities, the likes of which are in great decline today.

I may have to hit up Mike for a better copy of the Dolphin Room video. Mine is a little... warbly. High on the wow and flutter content. Billy doesn't need the extra vibrato. Shocked

The "Hawaiian Rainbow" segment is classic. I can correct a long-time friend, so I will mention that it was Auntie Violet Pahu Liliko'i - not Auntie Pauline Kekahuna - in that video with Billy and Auntie Genoa. Auntie Pauline had already passed by that time.

How are you doing, Ron? I cannot believe I have not seen you in over two years. <sigh>

Hey ho, Bill, welcome back to our neck of the woods! Hope all has been excellent and that we'll hear more from you on the forum, and musically. It's a crime having to suffer without some good ol' Wynne info and music happening.

Thanx for the corrections on Violet/Pauline, I've had that wrong for a long time... Either way, I'd hate to be on the receiving end of that right arm she displays Whoa! I caught what was probably Violet's last stage time when she struggled onto Auntie Genoa's original stage at the Marriott long ago and cut loose with some great stuff. She was gone shortly after.

BTW, I'm still dreaming of the day you, Jeff Au Hoy, Derrick Mau, and Bobby Ingano team up as the best musical force on the planet Cool

Aloha, brudda!

I love Billy Hew Len. What a great player and such an incredibly cool guy. The Hal Smith recordings of Billy are priceless.

Michael, I see that his 8 string setup was written on the album jacket. Do you know if he used any non-pedal on the album or was it all PSG?
