I have it narrowed down to a GFI expo or a Jackson Blackjack S-10 w/3&4 emmons set up. I currently have a 1970 fatback Emmons S-10 that I'll keep in my music room but would like something modern and lighter to take on gigs. Can you help me with any pros and cons about these two fine instruments? What one would you choose, and why? Thanks guys. Jim.

Hi Jim,
I have a GFI Expo S-10 and it is a fantastic instrument. Very nice tone, very smooth and precise mechanically. Mine has the stainless steel fingers (an option) and I like the tone very much. I have no experience with the Blackjack, I'm sure its a fine instrument as well.

I play a Jackson BlackJack Custom and it's a wonderful guitar. It's got three pedals and four knees. It's so light too, like the Jackson BlackJack. The tone on the Jackson is awesome-all pros, no cons.

I've never played an Expo but have played an Ultra single 10.

I also own a Jackson Blackjack Custom.

I prefer the Jackson.
The tone is great, the action is great, and it's beautiful, IMO.

I don't have any experience with GFI customer service, I have no doubt that it's probably great.

I do have experience with Jackson customer service and I think it's fantastic.

Both guitars are light, but the Jackson doesn't dance when you try to play it.

Maybe a GFI SD-10 won't dance, but the single 10 that I played wouldn't hold still.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm leaning towards the standard Blackjack. The Blackjack Custom is beautiful but a little out of my price range. Jim.

Still Beating my GFI Expo around on the road, if you want to hear it go to steel Players section , under bev coldiron's project.. you can hear it first hand.. Guitar to the rack into the console, no amp needed!
This is a great light weight guitar, with tone to the bone, plays smooth, and stays in tune fantasic..
Just my 2 cents..

Jim, I think you'll love the Jackson. Bein' a Jackson player myself, I can tell you that everything about the Jackson Steel is awesome! The Blackjack is a great steel for playin' anywhere. I think a Jackson BlackJack would definitely work for you.

Jackson for looks, never could get into the look of a GFI, i think it's the look and the grey alloy legs.
I have heard great things about them though!

There's only one way to tell for sure. Go to the convention and try them both out. In fact, you should try out all the different brands. You may well find something you like more than either one.
