I realize this is a long long long shot but hre goes:
Looking for discs for the Optigan optical organ circa 1972.
I have "Easy does it with Vibes" and the starter set of four discs.
Need the others.
These discs can be photocopied onto transparencies at Kinkos if anyone wants to trade or even sell me copies and keep their originals.
These things are old and crazy rare but you guys got tons of old and rare stuff, so figure it was worth a shot here. |

Optigan--cool!
I worked at Mattel as a designer in the 70's, just after they dropped all that stuff. I got to do a bunch of musical toys and projects but nothing as cool as those things. Search around on the web, as you probably know there are some discs that show up from time to time on ebay, etc..
Here's your "Optigan pedal steel" content: Check out Buddy Miller's tune "When it Comes to You" on his Midnight and Lonesome CD. The backing track features muy funky Optigan vamps and Al Perkins plays bluesy steel.
Ben, I'd love to check out your Optigan sometime...which one do you have? |

Hey Bob, Its the Mediterranean Model (aka the plastic one!)
I had to take the thing apart completely to "repair" it, but all the buttons and keys now work. Its a pretty wild contraption. You should come over some time to check it out.
Thanks for the tip on the Optigan/Steel content.
Im hoping to create some of my own Optigan Steel music too.

I wouldnt want you to bother anyone on my account Stu, If ya happen by chance to have an mp3 of that track tho maybe you could email it to me?
I guess I'll find these on ebay, but it seems they hit about $50 a pop there. They make new ones too..but those are $100. i just cant afford that for one set of sounds, cool as they may be. |

I was just on the Surfguitar101 site and came across a thread about Optigan. Apparently someone is still making these discs. My parents had one of these contraptions in the 70's. "You can tell it's Mattel, It's swell"

I love the tapeOp forum!
Theres a few Optigan users over there. My friend who is a moderator there had one...but got rid of it because he said it was too 1999 sounding. haha...so retro it was cool again, then so overused it was uncool again. |
