One of the biggest outdoor music festivals in the Northeast... I will be playing it this year with a folk/roots/zydeco/earth/pseudo avant garde country sort of ensemble called Trevor MacDonald and Silverbird.
I will be playing my Williams.. not too loud,no solos, lots of quiet harmonics,... but hey, its a gig..

Well a non paid one. Despite the $85 per person fee for the 4 day event.
Bands from all over the country play this thing annually, and it typically draws about 15,000 hippie types.. The worlds largest congregation of flower painted original VW micro busses!!...The Campbell Brothers will be there, Rickie Lee Jones, along with about 70 acts from all over, including several from the deep south.

I will playing on Thurs and Sat ...NO biggie of course, but geez, I never posted in Events and Announcements and I was feeling left out! bob

thanks for the VERY kind words George!.. I should be ok.I've played several times with these guys. They are a nice bunch of kids, but the money is.... well,,,

I hope the Campbell bros. are not around when I'm playing!.. I'd turn into a wobbling, quivering globule of Jello if I knew those guys were watching me play the steel!... bob

Bob, I don't mean to pry, but is it just you who gets no $$ or is it the whole band?
I don't see why any band should have to play for free at such a high profile, well run established, high ticket-price concert.

Tony... Its "pick and choose".. The "national" and touring acts DO get paid, depending on how "famous" they are.. MOST of the locals don't.. Its funny, there is a list TEN miles long, with GOOD original acts DYING to play for free here for the exposure. Most NEVER get in...

The singer/writer that asked me to play with him to sweeten thier sound with my humble steel playing, is well known in the area and is one of the "lucky" ones.. he's played here free since 95..

i am doing it to help out a nice young guy, but its costing me bread to play!.. Maybe I'll get a studio date from it.. Its happened before.
I agree with you Tony,I feel NO good musician should play for free at a huge money maker like this.. However as long as they find a LOT of very good talent to play gratis, why should they pay??... When more artists say, No pay NO play... this will change.
Don't hold your breath!! ... bob

Every time I hear that word, I'm reminded of JayDee's comment, "You can die from exposure."

Do what you think is right.

Bob,
Caught just the tail end of a special on that festival on WHMT public TV last night!
Way COOL! MAN, I could almost smell the pot! Havn't seen so many slack jawed flower power hippie type folks since my graduation photo! From as far as I could tell, just play and have fun! Pretty much anything goes!(Topless women dancing!)"one, two, three,
what are we fighting for?"i THINK YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD TIME!
