Don & Martin,
This looks like a fantastic guitar. Can't believe how light it is.
Looking forward to hearing the beautiful music that will come from this marvelous creation.

I will debut this fine steel at the Florida Steel Club June Jam.
I plan on playing "Blue Jade" on it so that you can hear the beautiful tone and sustain I heard from my test run of it yesterday.
The pedals and knee levers were not tuned yet so I only played it all open but was amazed at the sweet tone it had.
I hit the 5th string at the 5th fret and it rang for over a minute, not that I'll ever have to hold a note that long, but that will give you some idea of what this 3/4" "hard rock tiger striped maple" will give you.

We never got it dialed in because we did not get that far because I decided to go with an E-66 instead.

I went over to Martin's to see the blue steel and it is more beautiful than the pictures can even show.
Mr. Weenick knows his stuff, when it comes to building steel guitars. I usually not a fan of blue steels but this is the prettiest blue I have ever seen on a steel.
One of the little things he dose is having the deck a little above the end plates and rounding off the edges look close at the pictures

Thanks for your review of Mike's latest build on my blue guitar.
I usually also go for black on my steels like what my Emmons and ShoBud are.
It was originally going to be a slightly tinted natural color.
But being partial to the color blue and after seeing Jimmy Day's "Blue Darlin'" steel years ago in NY I was hoping to have a steel somewhat like his steel but on an SD-10 frame.
I am very please with what Mike has done for me and the extra time he has put into the design of this custom "One of a kind" steel.

Arne, mind you it's Martin Weenick that designed and built this guitar, hence it should be he who receives the congratulations for his work of art _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

You are almost right.

Don, It's not a matter of right or wrong (or almost right)
It is a matter of credit where credit is due.
I did give 100% of the credit to Martin because, really, it was his expertise and fine touch that has created this piece of work. Sketches are fine, so are studies of other guitars and borrowing ideas from those. Also, the removable horizontal knee lever was indeed a nice touch that I am sure you will love In the end, there would not have been a LKV, a steel, or anything... only a bunch of half worked through sketches and ideas in your head, had it not been for Martin.
But as we seem to be "bidding" on percentages of credits, I will gladly give you your suggested 20%.
So I suggest that being "almost right" in this instance is like being "almost pregnant"
Congratulations! _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

Martin,s guitars have all the sustain you could ever want, the day I picked up my Weennick from Martin Nan clocked it on a stop watch and I laid my hand on the strings after it sung loud and clear for 2 minutes.

Don, nothing was misinterpreted, believe me.
Don, my experience has showed me that when I am up alongside a builder of Martin's caliber, or any person who is more of an expert at his work than I am, I humbly bow to this person. Anything else, such as making other people aware of my contributions I feel will only serve to make me appear an empty braggart.
But of course, to each his own.
Have a great day! _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

I just found your post, that is what I get for not always checking "Pedal Steel"
Mr. Weenick, that is one beautiful steel guitar. Attention to detail really comes out.
I am loving the leg bar you made for my Carvin.

Martin -
I'm still marveling at your work of art! In looking at the photos for about the 10th time, I'm struck with a question. Granted, it's a SD10 body so you have all the room in the world for the knee levers. What if - someone wanted you to make a D10 for them? The lever width - on and just above the cross shaft - would most certainly not work. Have you an alternative (skinnier) design in mind for that eventuality?
Respectfully,
Richard |

The best thing about this build is, these "GOOD FRIENDS" built this beautiful guitar together.
It's just awesome. Congradulations to you both. |

Gosh !! So many nice comments, thanks a million guys !! Richard D. Yes Richard I have made much slimmer levers and brackets. When I have plenty of room like this guitar I like to make a sturdy bracket and wider levers so they are a little easier on us old boogers legs. Thanks for the really nice things you said. Martin : I have heard of your fine work in building Steel guitars, but now I know; seeing is believing. A superb piece of workmanship.. I love the finish on the apron and rest of the guitar; Just looking at the entire instrument; it says; I am tough; beautiful; sound great. Now, all we have to do is hear Don play an out-standing number on it; Come on , Don, place an Mp3 for all to enjoy. Write your own " Instumental " called " The Weenick Blues.
