I stumbled across this strangely wonderful David Byrne performance. David Byrne is such a weirdo, but I love him for just about everything he does. This is definitely a 'love it or hate it' performance.

Anyhow, there is a crazy pedal steel solo at 3:40 - I've never heard the instrument used in this way before. Anyone know who the player is?

I believe that's Bruce Kaphan. Bruce lives up in the Bay area of Northern CA. He has a solo LP "Slider", which features some of the coolest ambient sounding steel stuff I've ever heard, as well as a new LP "Hybrid", which I haven't heard yet.
And, he's a heck of a nice guy.

Right; Bruce Kaphan. But I prefer my "Psycho Killer" with more energy.
