All 3 of mine are u-12s with identical copedents (Or is it spelled copedants?) The reason is so that I can sit down at any of them and concentrate on the music without having to adjust to different setups.
How about you guys? Are you like me and have the same copedents on all of them, or are they different? Do they all have the same number of strings? _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

It makes a lot of sense, Mike. My PSGs are basically set up E9/C6, except that I have two Sho-Bud Crossovers where both E9 and C6 use all 6 pedals, and two Fender cable models, where there's no re-entrant two top strings, and I recently bought an SD12 Universal, which I trying to come to terms with. |

Due to space considerations, I never have more than two set up at any given time. Mine are all different tunings and copedents from each other. I don't get enough gigs to need two matching guitars. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

My situation is somewhat unusual. As I've mentioned before, I live on an incline, and have to climb stairs to get to the street. I keep one steel and a small practice amp in the house for woodshedding, and another, along with my big amp, in the garage at the bottom of the hill for taking places. The third is in my studio in the basement, and I use it to record. This way I never have to carry anything up and down the stairs.
(I have steel security doors with high tech locks on the garage, so it's burglar proof.) _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Mike,I'm waiting for my New Desert Rose guitar to be finished it will be exactly the same as my other one but a different color,I am thinking about setting it up with a D9th if so That will be the only difference.Between studio, gigging, and rehearsals it will be good for me to have identical guitars. _________________ Steeltronics Z-pickup,Desert Rose S-10 4+5,Desert Rose Keyless S-10 3+5... Mike,
My Carter D10 has a pedal zero Franklin, but otherwise is set up identically on the E9 neck to my Mullen SD10 (Emmons with E levers on left).
The U12 I got from you is setup as a B6/E9 Uni which is a bit different, mostly in that the E levers are split (raise LKL, lower RKL). The pedals are very similar to my D10 though, since both have the zero pedal franklin and are missing the typical pedal 4 (A->B).

That sounds like a challege to me, Mike.
Another vote for identical set-ups. The E9 necks on my SD-10 Williams and my Carter D-10 are the same, with the exception of an added Franklin pedal in the #4 spot on my Willy. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe.

Well....
My #1 guitar (my 2000 LeGrande111) is 8+9, and my other two D-10s are 8+5 (a Derby and another LG111) but they're fundamentally the same with the 'first' five knee-levers (on E9, at least) set up identically with each other. Pedal four is the 'Isaacs' pull on all three steels.
That means I can instantly play any of them and not get 'lost' on E9. C6th is not so easy because the second two guitars only have two KLs - therefore my principal 'knees' on that neck (raise and lower the C) are on my right leg (they're on my 'middle' knees on my main guitar).
The idea of having three guitars is for convenience when I'm busy (like now!); it isn't so I can experiment. I'm confused enough as it is!!!! _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

I have two Pro IIs . one with aluminum necks, the other with wood necks. They are both set up the same, except for one has a LKV, lowers my 5th string
1/2 tone. I'm in the process of getting parts to put that change on my other Pro II also.

Terry, is there a noticeable difference in the way they sound? If so, can you describe it?

I recently purchased an MSA S-12 off the Forum and I'm going to put the same set up on it that my Stage One has plus more using the additional two pedals and VKL. I'm still researching extended E9th copedents, if any of you 12-stringers have ideas I'd like to hear 'em! |

All of mine are set up pretty much the same.the same-Emmons on the E9 pedals,C6 and B6 roughly the same on the D10s and the Uni.KLs all the same-RKL lowers the E's,LKL raises them,RKR lowers the 2nd string and does a couple of other things on different guitars, but I disremember what happens on which guitar, because I've been playing the Uni almost exclusively the last year or two. |

My S-10 Emmons,CarpSteel & the E9th neck of my D-10 Emmons all have the same 3/4 configurations.
My SD-12 Ext E9th Emmons 3/4 has the same basic configuration with additional changes on the 2 extra strings. My S-12 Mullen 4/5 has the same basic configuration with a "0" pedal in the #1 slot that lowers all 3 G#'s to G and the LKV lowers B-Bb.
My SD-12 MSA Legend 5/5 has the "0" pedal in the #1 slot, then ABC and "Franklin change on ped 5.
same KL's as all the rest, but the VKL is an E-F# on string 4.
I can use any guitar for a gig and really don't miss the "extra" changes as long as I pay attention to which guitar I'm using at that time!

My Ritt and 2 LeGrand III's are set up exactly the same.
They all have a different p/u, but they all sound alike.
Now I can switch back and forth, but the Ritt is easier. _________________ aka "Lucky Kay"--Custom built Rittenberry SD10 3X5, Walker S/S, NV-112, and Hilton Pedal |

My two pedal steels are definately different. Both are 8/7 set ups but one is a modern Zum and the other an Emmon's P/P. I use the changes that take advantage of either the raise dominant or lower dominant nature of the beast. I also have a top G on one of the C necks and the top D on the other.
I rarely need different set ups for live gigs and almost exclusively use the Zum for those. But the two guitars offers a nice choice for studio work. It allows me to pick the right tool for the style I'm going after for any particular song. |

Mike, there is a difference in sound of the two Pro IIs I have, but ain't sure I can describe the difference. The one with the aluminum necks, is also 1 3/4" shorter than the wood neck Bud. The aluminum neck Bud may be a tad brighter, but it has a distinct bite to it, that I hadn't heard from any other guitar. And I've heard a lot of different steels in my 35 years of trying to play these things.
The wood neck Bud has a very nice tone also, but lacks that bite that the Aluminum neck has. You can here the aluminum neck, just do a search in 'instruments for sale' I bought it from Henry Matthews. He has a sound bite in the for sale post.
Mike:
I ain't sure I used the right word describing the difference in tone of my two pro IIs. I said the aluminum neck Bud had more bite, but I think I should have said the aluminum neck bud sounds more classic, it has more of a Hal Rugg sound, the sound he had when he was playin the Wilburn Brothers show.
My wood neck bud, sounds awesome also, but not quite as classic as the aluminum.

My two D-10's have the same setup for the essential changes....3&4 on E9 and 4&3 on C6. I frequently change P4 and the other levers, so they're not usually the same on both. I also have a Fender 400 S-8, which has the same E9 setup (Emmons pedals), but really stripped down and basic. _________________ www.pedalsteel.ca |

My two Zum U-12's are the same AND my 10 string SuperSlide emulates the B6 tuning (9 of 10 strings) on he pedal steel so arrangements are easily play on both style instruments, and my double neck Superslide 10 and 10 are B6 and E9.
Actually I was thinking of buying another pedalsteel to try every crazy thing out on..... _________________ Zumsteel U12 8-5, MSA M3 U12 9-7, MSA SS 10-string, 1930 National Resonophonic, Telonics Combo, Webb 614e, Fender Steel King, Mesa Boogie T-Verb. |
