I received a phone call from the Republican national comottee inviting me to meet and dine with Bush. Probably some sort of fund raiser.
The thing is though, as many of you know, I'm a Democrat. (Please, let's not turn this into a political debate.)
I can't even begin to imagine why they'd extend the invitation to me or how they got my name and phone number.
I turned them down. |

I'd have said yes - then sent them an invoice for consultancy....
Since we're OT....
My Great-Uncle was a member of the House of Lords (in fact, the oldest one ever to attend when he was 102 or thereabouts). At his memorial service I met Margaret Thatcher and a number of other heavyweight political figures. I didn't have much time for any of them really, and expected them to be like their public personas.
She was one of the most charming, engaging people I ever met. It didn't change my politics, but I did gain some respect for her as a person. Same went for leaders of the other two main parties at the time who I had a chance to hear speak.
It would be fascinating to have the opportunity to see if Bush is the same....

Mike, you should have accepted..meeting and sitting in the company of any President would have been a great experience, one that most would never get the opportunity to do.
Even Ted Kenneddy and Harry Reed go to the White House for lunch...
This would have been the time to suck it all in and go for the photo opp and the moment..to sit and have a few words with a sitting President...
I would have lunch with Hillary if someone invited me..

I met President Bush when he was governor of Texas and the Cornell Hurd Band played for one of his parties at the Gov's Mansion. He was off-guard, and seemed like a really genuine guy who likes country music and steel guitar. He also likes bass fishing, which I feel is way cool.
Fortunately, 9/11 and the Iraq war hadn't occurred yet, so he probably had less on his mind at the time.
