Hi Everyone!
I am very proud to announce that my husband, Roy, will soon be receiving special recognition in the music world.
We just received a letter from Lou Bischoff, President of the Seattle Western Music Society, informing Roy that he has been selected to be inducted into their Hall of Fame as a “Pioneer of Western Swing” in August, 2005. Roy didn’t want me to post this, as he thought it would sound egotistical on his part. However, it was announced publicly in the Society’s latest Newsletter – so, Honey, you’re just going to have to live with it; the word is already out and I just had to share the good news!
Roy tells me that a number of his steel guitar idols are listed in the archives of the Society as Pioneers of Western Swing, including Herb Remingron, Bud Isaacs, Bob White and Pee Wee Whitewing, as well as two of his personal steel guitarist friends, Bobby Koefer and Joaquin Murphey There are also some well known bandleaders who have been inductees, including Smokey Rogers and Spade Cooley. Every steel player’s friend, Mike Gross, is also in that prestigious list.
Since we will not be able to be present at the awards Seattle in August, Roy’s good friend, Slim Dossey, also in the Seattle Hall Of Fame, has agreed to accept the award in Roy’s behalf. Slim traveled for a number of years with the Sons of the Pioneers. Roy cut a record session with Slim in Los Angeles in 1966.
Please help me tell him congratulations.
I love you Honey and I'm so proud of you!
Laurie

This recognition is awarded to a very deserving person and musician. Congratulations Roy. Thanks for this posting, Laurie. Roy's music will leave a long, long trail with big footprints that no one else could ever fill. The Western Swing Hall of Fame building is a lot fuller with the induction of Roy Ayres. Glad you are back in the music after a long absence-the world needs you exactly where you are now.
Your friend,
Bill Stafford |
