In another thread (TUNING/CHORD CONSTRUCTION), I wondered about a dom G7 chord and whether the flat 7 should be on the top or bottom. Several people replied and in that time, I wondered about the 2 remaining strings.

I came up with (lo-to-hi) this tuning, C/G7...........C-E-G-B-D-F......and, much to my surprise, look at all the chords in G I can hit with NO slants at all, and no gaps between strings:

Tab:
CHORD     STRINGS          FRET

G         6-5-4            7
G         4-3-2            0, 12
G7        4-3-2-1          0, 12
Gmaj7     6-5-4-3          7
Gm        5-4-3            3
Gm7       5-4-3-2          3
G6        5-4-3-2          0, 12
Gdim      3-2-1            8
G13       6-5-4-3-2-1      0, 12

You can forward slant to grab the root and 2 inversions of the Gaug chord on strings 3-2-1 beginning on the 3 string at frets 0 (12), 4 and 8.

Seems pretty versatile to me. That being said I would probably take it down 3 semi-tones to..........A-C#-E-G#-B-D....to make it less high strung on the top strings and to give a bit more bottom end.

So, I guess this would be A/E7 tuning?

Comments appreciated.

My apologies as in the typing area, the chord/strings/fret were clearly separated and after I submitted it, the thing bunched up and I don't know how to fix it.

It's just a Cmaj7 chord with an added natural 11 which is rather gross if played all together. There's no need to over complicate the name.

I think thats a cool idea, Stephen. What comes to my mind is that the tuning is very close to B11 except with the 3rd string raised a half step.

C-E-G-B-D-F would be the same intervals as B11 if it were: C-E-G-Bb-D-F .

Good idea I will try on my B11 to get some major 7-9 sounds. That tritone B-F looks extremely useful.
