Every steel player, lap or pedal should have this book as well as a CD of the tunes that the book uses. Joaquin's music is old, from the 40's, and may not be to everyone's taste but the fire and verve he played with has been seldom duplicated by anyone since then.

Thanks- the recordings may be old, but Joaquin's concept is as modern/up to date as anyone playing steel guitar, IMHO.

Haven't heard this myself but a poster on the Telecaster forum said Joaquin appears with Andy Parker and the Plainsmen on this MP3 compilation of 17 radio broadcasts. That's a lot of content for $5.

I bought the CD a couple of years ago.

There is not a lot of Joaquin content, but you do get these tunes with the Plainsmen:

Dark Eyes
Call The Hounds
Columbus Stockade Blues
Sioux City Sue

as well as a few Jimmy Wakely performances which include some great steel by the rarely heard Pete Martinez.
