Hello, My First Post! Lessons in the S.F. Bay Area? I am a PSG beginner with some musical backround. Also would like to know where to take my Sho-Bud Pro II for set up help, willing to drive awhile if necessary.

Thanks in advance, Charles 'Skip' Stange

I don't know if Larry Chung is still teaching in San Francisco. If he isn't, perhaps David Phillips can show you some things.

The closest pedal steel shop is probably in Steel Guitars of North County in Oceanside (although Blackie Taylor Music in Riverside is another possibility).

John McClung did a recent workshop in the East Bay and had ten pedal steelers show up, but they were from all over the area. There isn't a huge demand for pedal steel in the Bay Area.

Feel free to write me directly for other suggestions.

Thanks Brad, I will be in touch at one point... I inherited my dad's pro II (he was the original owner). It plays well enough for me now and I have figured out most of the basics, pedal and knee lever tuning etc. but there is alot of metal under there...Funny thing is I took it for granted, since I grew up(although not in CA) with a psg in the house, that there would be more "interest" way out here...

Making my way by 'ear' & tab...
Best regards,
Skip

Hi Charles,

If you're willing to drive up to Cloverdale, I can do the setup on your Sho-Bud for you and teach you how to work on it yourself.

Greg Lasser.

Dunno if he's still in the SF steel scene, but he's the best teacher and mechanic I've ever known....Killer player too!

Give Duane Wong a jingle. He is the formost teacher in the East Bay. His email is ecmusicworks@yahoo.com. His music store number is 510-232-1000.

What's the problem with your Sho-Bud?

...Tom

Hi Tom, thanks for replying. Mostly there were several loose adjustment nuts/screws on the pedal rods and lever stops above where the rods attach. I managed to get things working and in tune but one of my concerns is that I do not know where the starting point is for making adjustments. I'm also not sure about the 'tuning' rods, there are some springs that are fully compressed on these. Also there is an intermittent static/scratchy sound through the amp when depressing pedals while playing only on the C6 neck.

All things I can live with for know, but relize going forward I really need to have someone that knows whats going on mechanically have a look, and I don't want to make things worse by neglect.

Really appreciate everyone's time, regards,
Skip
