This is my first post after just joining the Forum, tho I've been reading it for awhile. The amount of information and help found on this forum is nothing short of incredible. What I'm looking for is PSG teacher willing to take on a rank beginner, tho I've played some 6 string years ago. After putting in about 20 hours on the forum a few weeks ago (didn't get much sleep), I finally decided to take the plunge and ordered a stage one pedal steel from Doug Earnest, a tone bar from Bill at BJS bars (along with a tuner and volume pedal). Also instructional material from Fran at Jeffran College and a beginner's book from Mickey Adams. Everyone I talked to was great - it sure is nice to talk with people who know what you want and are willing to answer your questions, however trivial.
Anyway, since I'm not getting any younger I'm going to give this a shot and wondered if there were any instructors within 50-60 miles of Valparaiso, IN. Thanks

Mick,
Thanks for the welcome. I just received your book about an hour ago and have been going through it - my guitar is set to arrive in early June and then I can get to work...I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions.
By the way, I think you and the rest of the Forum members who helped out are a class act getting the welder set up with his pedal steel and gear - very commendable. I hope things work out for him.

Thanks again,
Steve

Steve,
You may want to talk to Nelson Wynn at Broadway Music in Merrillville. If he can't help you out, I am sure he will know of someone who can.

Tim,
Thanks - I'll look up Nelson at Broadway Music. I was able to see him and several Pedal Steel players at the DAV in Michigan City a few weeks ago - he had suggested I check out the Steel Guitar Jam there....and shortly after I was talking to Doug Earnest at stage one steel. There wasn't a cover charge to get in for the almost 5 hours of steel guitar playing, but now my wallet's a lot lighter!

Cal,
Looks like your friends in Michiana are the same bunch I went to see in Michigan City a few weeks ago....great group of guys - spoke with several, though nobody knew of anyone giving lessons at this time.
Thanks,
Steve
